Deliciously Local: Eat, Shop and Play @ Stamford Green – Take in the old school atmosphere of food and fun with a pasar malam at the Museum’s Stamford Garden from 6.30pm to 2pm.
Baby, where are all the fine things you promised me? – Pop into this tiny Victorian cottage at the Museum’s Stamford Garden from 7pm – 11pm and interact with its owner! Enjoy a cuppa while listening to a performance on the miniature piano in this installation by Stephen Bain (New Zealand).
Celebrations – A performance that will amuse and entertain audience of all ages, by Taiwanese puppeteers from The Happy Puppetry Company, from 7.30pm – 8pm, under the Museum’s majestic banyan tree.
Under the Banyan Tree: Open Air Cinema – Stay on after the puppet show to enjoy movies under the stars at 8pm. Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971) on 25 July and Harispray on 26 July.
Reform – At SMU from 8.30pm, literally tune into this live radio broadcast and performance which unfolds into the night. You will be given a portable FM radio and headset as you follow an elite taskforce through the city, listening in to their every word of advice, every misdemeanor and every random act of kindness.
Light Installation by The Electric Canvas – Watch as the National Museum of Singapore and Singapore Art Museum’s façade becomes a canvas for light projection and unimaginable creativity. From 9.45pm.
Bloco – 100 percussionists and performers make up Bloco Singapura who plays a pulsating infusion of folkloric street carnival and Modern Street culture. The Mestre starts with a call and the Bloco responses tight and loud as the cheerleading girls are thrown high up in the air. The Carnival will move from Stamford Road, through the museum’s main entrance and through the festival ground before ending up at the stage/performance area. On stage, seven established musicians will join the Bateria and the Mestre to perform five amazing songs for the entertainment crowd. From 9.45pm – 10.30pm.
The Beatnik Picnic – It’s 10.30pm and time to party. The first night on 25 June welcomes the creative community with new works of art, lomo photography exhibition & picture taking, percussion circle with instruments provided for all to join in. The second night on 26 June is Zouk’s annual celebration of hip hop in its 8th year including Breakdance competition, Extreme Sports and Rap performances. Zouk’s resident DJs will spin on both nights.
Other events include Flight of the Night Owl – a heritage quest with prizes to be won and a night tour of five museums – and Unconference – a programme that uses the speed-dating format allowing participants 4 minutes to have a one-on-one chat about the topic of the night: Why are so many ex-lawyers in the arts? Also listen out for Four Mics – Jazz, a free jazz performance at the Singapore Art Museum.
