Thanks for the advice David!
I will definitely be posting again, once I feel I have something worth showing.
There have been times when my voice has sounded really great .. but usually it has disappeared by the next day. So the way I see much of my training now is learning how to access that way of singing, and then training it to be stable.
The first piece of the puzzle, how to access good singing, that is pretty much solved now. I am using some exercises given to me by my SLS teacher, in combination with a few exercises from David Jones (voiceteacher.com). Using those, I can access an open throat and connected vocal cords in 100% of training sessions. I'll make a recording of this next chance I get.
The second piece, stabilizing that voice, well I think I will have to go back for further lessons. There's also the question of singing above chest voice, which I cannot do yet. I can open my throat on the higher notes using the SLS exercises, but I cannot yet close my vocal cords on those notes.
Regarding "theory logic" vs "feeling and freedom" .. I have a problem in that my voice is trained in a bad way. I speak with a very small, breathy, squeezed voice. If I don't pay attention to my technique, then I sound bad. So I cannot sing without some "theory logic"

I do realize I must be free as well, but if I simply sing "naturally", it sounds awful. So I feel that I must train my voice to open up first, then let that become natural, and then sing freely. That's where I am now.
