Hi,

I'm a total noob to pedals, because I don't even own an amp! (how embarrassing). But I'm going shopping soon (yay!!) so I was wondering about a few things. In a list to help you answer them:

1. Are there special pedals for acoustic guitar different from electric ones? (I know overdrive will sound bad on acoustic...but like reverb, delay etc?)

2. Are individual pedals that only do one effect better than those big big multi-efx?

3. Any suggestion for beginner pedals? Which ones are good for performance, which ones are too troublesome to tweak on stage, what to avoid, to look out for etc?

So many questions....haha. Maybe just go guitar shop and try out the pedals and whack?

Please help!

Ehhh Wait.
(Actually, I Don't Have An Amp Too >.<")
But Anyways,
In U're Q1, Are U Using An Acoustic Or Electric Guitar?

Cause If You're Using A Normal Acoustic, U Can't Even Plug In.
That Is Unless, U're Using An Electric Acoustic Guitar!

alright

thanks, i'll check the stickies...

my acoustic has a pickup. im not knowledgeable about the electronics...but there's stuff like analog tape, and digital?? it gets more and more confusing the more i read. haha.

i might want to buy an electric in FUTURE la...but must save first. :s

let me clarify, acoustics do have plugins. eg. taylors. but thats not the point, pedals are all for you to experiment, we all have different tastes so what us softies can do is shed some light but the rest is really up to you.

as for q1, like i said, it depends, some like delayed, maybe chorus. but in general, acoustic players like to keep the tone of their guitars and well, effects do tend to suck tone.

q2, multiefx are, in general, better for beginners. it lets you have a "collection" of pedals and play around with it. individual effects (in my opinion) are better, it offers you more control over that particular effect (not to mention you can use 6 effects at one shot) while multiefx usually only allow 3 effects to be turned on at once (which is not a bad thing)

and q3, i'd honestly reccomend you to get a multi first, it enables you to play around and just have plain fun with all the effects in them, try looking for a korg toneworks or pod xt if youre not quite sure how long your interest will stay. but if youre REALLY sure, invest in a boss GT series or xt live, even to korg AX 1500 and 3000 are pretty decent.

For acoustic effects, U can try out the Zoom A2 at citymusic, its a cheap acoustic multi effect

Individual pedals are made to do one thing good, while multi are made to do many many things...so go figure...:) Personally for me, multi is ok with modulation efx, but abit lacking in the od/dist efx. But they are a good start to figure out wat type of effects u dig if u are starting out. Zoom and korg has quite a few entry level multi, check them out at citymusic
