Not sure if this is the place to post this (sorry if it ain't - you may see this post elsewhere, apologies in advance), I've got a friend who helps run this club and its having a Guitar competition with cool prizes - have a look at this:

GUITAR GOD COMPETITION:

CrossRoads, Singapore's Authentic Rock & Roll and Blues Bar is now giving all guitarists in Singapore the chance to prove themselves as master axemen and claim the title of "Guitar God".

This inaugural annual event is a national talent contest that gives unsigned musicians the chance to compete for fantastic guitars and equipment worth over $10,000 !!

Prizes include a Fender Telecaster American Deluxe and a Gibson Acoustic J-45 Mahogany each worth $4,000! All finalists will win prizes including Guitar Gallery Cash Vouchers worth $200 each and limited-edition CrossRoads/Guitar God T-shirts.

This is GREAT!!! This is the real thing. a chance for us to see n know whose who in Guitar playing.

Guess who will be the judge??? :lol:
 
I wonder if neo-classical qualifies as rock and roll/blues. :wink: At Crossroads some more. Maybe the organisers have been reading that dueling thread. :)
 
Babelfish - Just register (or encourage all those who want to compete for real) and let the organisers decide lah.

I don't have access to the number of registrants but as fgl says they are going to put posters out in jamming studios nationwide very soon.

Can anyone help with the tertiary institutions? They would love to have the posters out there as well so that youngsters have a go at winning the prizes - if anyone can help please PM me and I'll try to arrange something.

..BTW, I'll not a judge :wink:
 
Spread the word ppl - this is gonna be BIG, BIG, BIG (or BYG, BYG, BYG - to the spelling impaired) .... man if you thought the other guitar competitions were hot wait till you check out this competition ...KILLER PRIZES MAN ... and DUN worry non of the guitar players from the roster of bands at Crossroads will be taking part - haha... besides this is a great chance to meet and mingle with musos island wide as well as....

i already signed up yesterday, been practicing since last night, now my calouses on mi fingers are worn from extreme bending
 
If this is a "GUITAR GOD" competition, it shouldnt be rock & roll and blues only, pretty limited eh? prizes are attractive though, but the name Guitar God is kinda dumb

Official Rules and Entry Information

All entries must be received by CrossRoads by 20 August 2006.
No purchase of products or services is required.
Contestants (including all band members) must be 18 years of age (on 23 Aug 2006) or older to participate.
Open to all residents and visitors to Singapore.
Finalists will also be announced on the competition’s web site.
Electric category: Strictly Rock & Roll or Blues songs only. Orgainsers will decide what's acceptable and inform contestant.
Acoustic category: Strictly Folk, Country Rock or Blues songs only. Orgainsers will decide what's acceptable and inform contestant.
Entries with vocals are allowed. However, competitors will be judged solely on their ability to play the guitar.
Songs should feature instrumental songs with the guitar as the lead instrument.
Original compositions may be accepted.
Please identify the song, it's writer(s) or band associated with your selected song.
Accompaniment is acceptable, but only individual entrants will be considered, not bands.
On-stage accompaniment is allowed, from a partner up to a 3 piece band.
Minus-one Accompaniment must be in Audio CD format and must be playable on standard CD players.

Tips on doing well

Contestants are encouraged to lead off with a strong, upbeat songs and forget about the long introductions. Select a varied program, in tempos, feeling, styles. Rock & Roll and Blues are inclusive genres encompassing many hybrid styles. Demonstrate your knowledge of the breadth of the music genre as well your ability to play it. What you play reflects your taste as well as displays your capabilities. N.B. These are tips and NOT guidelines on judging criteria.
 
and of course those who wanna HIRE SOT as their back up band for the competition - PM me for rates ....hahhaha :lol: 8)
