hi guys! i wanna get my 1st electric guitar but i got no idea which 1 and which shop to go. i really like rock and punk rock music, which kind of guitar should i look for?? oh ya and my budget is around 350+ thanks guys!

Wanna buy my warlock guitar? HAHA,its more metal though, but i'll throw in an amp tooooo!
On a serious note, for punk rockers, I suggest an SG copy of any brand. Try searching for it at peninsular plaza or bras basah's Swee Lee. They might have it

get a schecter, good quality for money.
dont bother with the entry epiphone lps and sgs.. dubious construction.
ltds are a good choice too, quite well constructed.
ibanez gio's arent that good as well, perhaps tell us what kinda music you play?

Would recommend a guitar with humbuckers since you like punk rock..best thing you can do is head down to peninsula/bras basah and take a look at the guitars. You can also take a look at Standard Value at Woodlands ,they have many guitars that are worth the money and suitable for beginners like the Timbre,SMASH and Rally.

I recommend the Ibanez GSA60. I've had one for two years and I'm very satisfied with it. I find it a very versatile instrument and I play stuff ranging from blues to rock and even metal.

But honestly recommending a specific guitar to you isn't going to be the most helpful because the guitar we recommend might not suit you. The best thing is to go and try out many guitars within your price range.

But these are what you'll probably need for punk:
- Bridge humbucker (double magnets - more output and more powerful).
- Fixed bridge (also called hardtail bridge. Useful if you're going to change tunings regularly. And at that price range, tremolos are very unstable).

So try out various guitars with the above specs, and decide which one you like the most.

Bad rep of the GIO series stems from:

1) Inconsistent QC.
2) The reputably unreliable ILT1 Licensed FR system (found mainly on the GRX series)
3) Availability of other guitars that are just as good if not better for around the same price.

For $350 you can get a decent new guitar, or an even better second hand guitar. For second hand guitars just prowl the Buy/Sell section. Plenty of folks trying to sell killer guitars for killer at killer prices there.

wow thanks for all the replys! btw is it possible to get a good guitar+amp for 350++? haha cos im still a student dun have much cash atm

With that budget, its easy to get a guitar and an amp for beginners.Would suggest that you get either the SX packages at Davis or Timbre packages at Standard Value. If you want to get a strat shape guitar at entry level, its best to stick with sx/SMASH/timbre.

btw is the timbre sr-200 good for rock music??

I own a timbre SR200,pretty good for punk, but if you wanna play punk and rock,I would suggest that you get a guitar with humbuckers and a distortion pedal unless the amp you are getting has a built in distortion efx.The SMASH guitars from Standard Value has received many good comments, and the best thing is one of their pickups is a humbucker.Perhaps you might wanna ask some softies about the SMASH.

Well, just get a normal starter pack if thats the case. LOL Guitar,Cable,Amp,Instructional dvd.......Yeah,its quite good to get a whole set. Just go surveying. See with your eyes, feel with your fingers and hear with your ears(tasting and smelling optional) Find the right starter for you. You never know it might be your signature guitar one day

Anyway, the choices we give you are all based on our preferences so its best that you check out these guitars that we have mentioned and see which one suits you best :D

Try not to skimp so much on starter packs. They are not bad stuff, but they are not great either. Within a few months you'll be wanting to upgrade, and trying to sell them off is pretty hard.

I suggest get a really good guitar and 2nd hand 10w practice amp. You can get the amp for $50 or less in the 2nd hand market. That leaves you $300 for a really solid lower midrange 2nd hand guitar.

My first guitar was a 2nd hand Ibanez SA 120 for around $300. Still utilising it and I know I will still keep utilising it for a very long time. :)
