I dunno if I am inviting trouble but here goes.

I am currently trying to do the uphill task of helping the following artiste to be commercially viable. Maybe I can give some background.

I discovered her about a year back when she came with her own original compositions. We have absolutely no funding from any sources whatsoever. We just plunged in to do what we are passionate about doing. Please offer your Love / Hate comments and notes so that we can be encouraged and improve.

i think her voice is quite nice. but her pronounciation on some chinese words is like .. er.. the "H" sound like missing? lol. the songs quite nice too :D..
 
thanks for the feedback. actually i noticed that on some songs at certain parts.
Will need make a better effort man.

I thought at this point maybe i can share a bit about the gear we used.

I recorded it all on a 002 system and mix with extra power from APA32.
monitoring was done on M-audio BX-10 and KRK V8s. At later mastering stage, we were fortunate enough to have genelecs 1037B and 1030As

All drums are live on a hip gig with occassional loops from ableton for more electronic stuff.
Guitars are fenders and les pauls. thru riveria amps and grand old roland jazz chorus.

Bass are Fender P-bass and yamahas thru focusrite pre-amps direct.

keys are VST true pianos and korg X5D with synth master soft synths and reason stuff.
Just sharing our journey.

heys, had the urge to post in this thread again. i think her voice is really nice, ur arrangement is quite good too :P... but sry i can't do anything to help u, i'm still a student ahaha.. unless the album is released in stores then i'll support (or any place u are sellling it). have u tried to get her signed? or a distrubution deal ?
 
Actually release date is on website. Will be uploading more tracks prob today or tomolo.
Already got a distribution deal. Will be in CD Rama. Looking for more distribution actually.

since its a chinese pop release, why not send the tracks to local record/music companies like Ocean Butterfly, LWS, FunkyMOnkey?

Pardon me for saying this, the web looks abit amateurish, get a professional to get it nicely done?

I did it myself. No more cash.....
I think i am only good at producing and studio work...
internet very weak lah....think need go find help.

Today, we finally finished all mastering.

Was using the genelecs. Damn accurate and transparent. Can hear everything that the V8 and BX-10 missed.

Everything was done using LE with tons of waves plugs and APA32s.

The only problem was the latency. No lantency compensations in LE therefore, when using AUx to split bands, we ran into lantency issues. Used the time corrector to delay tracks that were ahead..

everything turned out fine...:)

Hope folks will like it after release!

Hi,

Here i am posting again...still at work trying to fix some small problems that we discover on our second listen.

Anyone here is also running protools LE? Need some advice on a little technical issue.

i think certain things like pronunciation, styling, production and many other small minute details can be easily improved as the singer progress further down her career path. These things are like software which can be upgraded as things flow along.

But certain things which is the hardware or "heartware" cannot be changed. for example, i feel that the singer's voice is something that must be able to speak into other people's life. the feelings and emotions is something that cannot be manufactured or taught. I personally feel that she has the hardware, the software is just merely a few or maybe a couple tweaks away....

btw... i heard that the CD is in manufacturing! which means that it will be released soon, and i think robsg said that it will be sold in CDrama right? i will surely buy a few. Even if not as professionally done as stef sun's cd, but it's a pure local effort!!

bro robsg bro, from now onwards, the local radio DJs are your bestestest frens. More BFF than BFFs! In my limited experience with Chinese pop music, radio airplay is king... more so that the English underground music. We can cover our grounds by doing shows. For your end, it's purely the mainstream media. Airplay and music videos.
