btw if it's within your knowledge dont mind stating the estimated price of the pedal your recommeding, but pls dont turn this into a "hey wna buy my pedal thread" thx.. :)

on the other hand
off topic: Anyone knows whr i can get a rg350 pickguard? preferably not the metallic or white ones.. or anyone know of softies who offer custom pickguard services?

hmm im more to classic rock or even stuff with heavy riffs
as for budget wise i've really got no idea cause you see i dont know nuts bout pedals
so i was thinking maybe something decent would be fine dont hafta be super high end stuff

hm, sounds to me that you need to experiment with sounds and therefore a multi efx is probably best. you can look for a second hand pod xt live or maybe a digitech rp500, those should give you a big range of effects (incl others like delay, compressor) and a wah is included as well.
But let's see what others say

Hi,

For custom pickguards, PM one of our fellow SOFTie, Vincent, who goes by the nickname of gr3y here.

He did some stuff for me before so I can vouch that he does awesome work and is a conscientious and reliable fellow.

There are many many many pedals out there. Depends on whether you want to go the multieffect or single pedal route.

Just do a simple search here on the forum and you will find many threads discussing this topic. You will learn a lot from those threads.

The best advice I can dispense is to simply find some time and go down to some of the shops and tell the shopkeeper what you need. And ask to try some of his recommendations.

I highly recommend TYMC, because CK and Augustine are simply wonderful people who are very patient and easy-going.

Let us know the results of your experimentations! Good luck and cheers.

there are soooo many great guitar pedals out there...

some things to be considered to buy pedals are:
- your musical taste, playing style & skill
- your other gears that will be connected to your pedals (mostly) -> guitars & amps or recording equipment (mixer)
- price >< performance

there are several pedals that can cover that range from classic blues rock to heavy rock, you can try a Fulltone OCD, Xotic BB preamp or my Blues Creamer it's a hotroded tube screamer

Well to answer a few of your questions since i really pride myself in dealing with efx!

Multi efx vs Single efx?

There are both pros and cons on this. Well multi efx would allow you to experiment different types of sounds etc.. However, they may be digital sounding and hard to tweak - this might give you a negative stereotype for the effect. Although these days, there are presets in multi efx to help you with this! Another problem with multi-efx would be getting tones and settings on the fly according to the amp in the studio/gig etc.. Different amps have different characteristics and single individual stompboxes are much much easier to tweak on the go than the multi-efx.

Also, theres a huge debate on the analog vs digital characteristics on both the pedals. Well, this is really subjective due to the high quality multi-efx (tc electronics etc..)
However, after looking at both multi-efx and single efx, the boutique side of stompboxes (especially fuzzes which require immense biasing and tuning of components) really give out a more authentic feel. Of course, those are really expensive and rare to come by where a multi-efx would be more practical.

Well tone freaks like me would definitely go for the latter!

Dist vs Hi-Gain? There is a difference - basically how they're tweaked.. I'm sure Goose could fill you in more since he has successfully created the seventhheaven which is pretty high in demand (tried one myself). Just a basic guideline - there are many types of distortions and drives mainly differentiated by the tone/headroom/transparency/gain differences. Go expand your knowledge by listening to the different types of drives etc..

Flangers/Wahs/Modulations are different as well.. For wahs, the type of sweep, midrange frequency, smoothness(hope theres such a word) etc.. Go research and you'll probably understand more on your own!

Asking for recommendations now without being specific would give you loads of gear recommendations but you wouldn't know where to start!

Let me know if you need any further help, would be glad to fill you in.

more or less confused even more now but soft's search function is kinda messy :(
as for asking for shop owner's recommendation i already had some bad experience so yea..
anyway i did ask gr3y but the price seems alil steep..
erm i intend to get the pedals for long term use so i guess multi efx arent really what i'd go for plus i saw some multi pedal that are pretty costly
btw how much would decent single pedal's average price range in general ? i still dont understand hi gain and distort :(

You really have to experiment, listen and experience what people wrote in this thread. there is no way around it. Making a 'long term' investment into a pedal which makes you happy for a long time depends on your own ears e.g. taste.
Also the difference between high gain (overdrive/booster) and distortion is something you have to hear yourself to understand.
Maybe you have some guitarist friend who can demonstrate different pedals and their tones to you.
As for prices have a look at the buy/sell section, there you should get an impression.

u pay for what u get. gr3y offers very very good quality work so if u want to cheap out dont look for him. but u only have urself to blame when u get crappy results.

the search function might not be a good idea actually. google would be much better. take sometime, and watch gear demos.

http://www.youtube.com/user/ToneFactor#play/uploads

after watching, u'll roughly know what u like and what u dont. and u'll be able to match which effects for which songs u enjoy and the tones u want to emulate.

to me,my preference n jus suggestion.get an pod x3 live.its dual tone is gr8 for using 2 amps sending separate signals and time of delay.it has boss metal zone and fuzz sth lyk that i cant rmbr as im nt a heavy type of tone player. =) hope it help
