need some advice

hey guys, i posted about a buzz problem with my blackheart little giant stack quite awhile back and it was "cured" by grounding the amp.

i just played with my grounded amp with my pedal chain and realised that there's this "feedback-ish ring" when i use both my overdrives at the same time (i stack my overdrives cause i dont like distortion).

my amp settings were
bass:6
mids:2
treble:6
volume:4

at the time of playing i was using my les paul with emgs 85/81 at volumes max on the guitar knobs.

pedal chain at that time was
vox 847 wah> Boss OD2> MXR wylde od> Boss CE-2> Artec Delay> Amp

settings on OD2
level: 3 o'clock
tone: 11 o'clock
drive: full blast (5 o'clock)

settings on wylde od
output: 12 o'clock
tone: 11 o'clock
gain: full blast (5 o'clock)

just wondering whats wrong with the setup? could it be the cables i was using? or is it that the pedals just dont work nicely together.

lastly, when i switched my OD2 for my phase 90, i get this "swooshing" sound when all the pedals are in bypass mode. whats up with that?

when u use another overdrive to boost ur dirt tone, u shouldnt set the drive to max. u'll get tons of feedback. what players normally do is use the overdrive pedal that's boosting as a clean boost. meaning, u dial the output knob full, the tone to whatever u like and the drive at zero. u'll get sweeter sustain and a tad bit more gain. u wont have the crazy feedback problem like this.

even so, when i dial back the gain on my wylde od to 12 o'clock or 9 o'clock, it still feedbacks

Try lowering the drive on both the pedals.

I had that wooshing sound too, I figured it was connected to the same power supply as my drive pedals. I have since switched the phaser to using batteries and that seemed to have solved that problem. It could also be that the pedal power supply was sharing the same ground as the amp. I have no idea.

Hmmm what the rest has suggested is true, u cant stack both OD together with both at close to full vol......lots of feed back with occur. As for the power issue that lightice mentioned, it is true as well.....just wanna know what kind of power source u r using bro?

I conclude that your 2 drive pedals are giving the feedback. Too much gain. Do you use you amps OD channel or clean? This will add even more feedback.

clean bro. my amp doesnt have a drive channel. my phaser has the wooshing problem on bypass mode. any comments?

ground loops due to shared power....
no big deal....just get a proper isolated power supply.

Make sure your patch cables are of "standard" quality with proper soldering work done.

If the above doesn't solve your problem ...sell all your gear and get a trombone.

Spot on goose!

Ok bro, i am a proud owner of a BH (after goose mods keke!), but as stock i can tell u, u musn't push the amps vol more than 10 o'clock on 3 watts and 11 o'clock on 5 watts cause the head room on that amp is real low.....the tubes overdrives/breakup very early. Once u go pass those levels, the BH will be overdriven and with ur pedals set at high gain and high vol will cause alot of unwanted feedback.

As a previous user of one spot, all i can say is change it or use it as a backup, cause it causes unwanted noises too and is unsafe, hope these helps cheers!

basically means the grounds of each power supply are isolated from the others so it gives a cleaner current and hum free signal. not the best explanation though.

t rex fuel tank jnr, bbe supacharger, voodoolabs pedal power are examples of isolated power supplies.

one spot, mxr dc bricks are not isolated power supplies

Before spending the big bucks buying something. I suggest you try using batteries. If it cures the problem, then look at buying something to replace the batteries.

Why go 1 circle you ask? Because if it isn't the battery problem, you won't waste that much money by buying another power supply.

Alternatively, since you only use 2 pedals at once, I'd ask a friend to loan me a 1 spot or another power supply just for testing.

what you mean replace the batts? i dont only use 2 pedals at once. i use alot of my wah and chorus as well.

Okay, then look to get a power supply with individual ground isolation.

I think you are playing with wayyy too much gain.

more gain does not equal better, try to play with less gain cos there's more clarity and the proceedings will be less messy.

In the long run, as your technique improves you'll find yourself playing with less gain due to your technique getting cleaner.

I'd recommend a t rex fuel tank jr for an isolated power supply. No need for a PP2+ unless you got line 6 pedals or something more than 120 ma, like the moogerfooogers.
