hey ppl...im currently using an ibanez s520ex...im planning to change the pick ups...going for a neck pick up higher on treble and mids..cripsy kinda tone and suitable for playin solos n cleans..a bridge pick up doesnt sound muddy while distorted..kinda lyk emg tone..
im considering these few combinations:

neck: evolution / Bridge: x2n
neck: SD full shred / Bridge: SD JB

anybody has any experience with an evo neck pick up? mind to share?

or any other combination that ur may suggest?

also wondering if it is possible to put in EMGs in my s520ex...whether there is space for the 9v batteries...

I'm using an Ibanez 520EX too.

Right now, I've got Dimarzios, Humbucker From Hell in my neck and the X2N in my bridge.

If you want great distortion, the X2N is perfect for that. Very balanced and compressed, great for metal/rock.

I don't know abt Evos in the neck but the HFH is very tight sounding... not exactly middy (can be tweaked from amp/efx settings) but its NEVER muddy... clear and focused... on clean, its strat-like, very very cutting clean tone.

I used Breeds before, in neck and bridge... I must say, that they are also awesome pups.. great cleans, almost acoustic like.. for the neck, thick PAF-ish tone with a lot of power and for the bridge, great crunch to it! They are pretty expressive too, good for instrumental rock stuff. However, the Breed neck might be a tad too dark for the S520EX...

Anyway, if you wanna hear how the HFH and X2N sounds in an S520EX, pm me with your email, I'll play for you over msn.

With the tremsetter in place, you will not have any space for the batteries. Without tremsetter, you can move the springs around to allow for a battery compartment.

Don't even think abt the control cavity! ;)

okie...anyway how would u describe the HFH tone when put on high gain?

anybody has any experience with the evo neck or SD full shred pups?

Well if you're shredding more of rhythms, then the pickup combos with your pedal and amp could basically be geared towards plain gorged distortion anyway u like. However if you're shredding solos and arpeggios and stuff, it's better to get single coil pickups with clean signals, and then boost the clean signals with an overdrive pedal, so that every note u hit sounds clearer, as well as chords.

Yes...this indeed sounds like the philo of Yngwie, but it stands very true for a shredder.

Since u're an Ibanez user, probably recommend u should try a similiar vein to Gilbert's setup. Not exactly, but the dynamics of it.

you sure the guy works there???!maybe he was trying to be funny.

but if I were you, I would go for a tonezone at the bridge. It's the zone of tone, man!!!111!

doinks....im sure nobody in e world will b so bo liao ba -.-" hahax..

hmm tonezone pretty low on treble leh...i looking for high treble n mids lolx..still tink evo will b good...hmm...

i would say, for your req, give the super distortion a miss. super distortion is less trebly inclined and a bit more muddy than say, a JB imo.

i like the super distortion muddy sound though. :p

I think what you are aiming for is a very clear, crisp neck tone. An Evo neck isn't that high on treble but its cutting, a very good pup for live performance. If you want it REALLY bright and all, yes, Evo Bridge in the neck would do... but note that you wouldn't get the typical fat-ish and round neck tone but more of a slightly less trebly and more bassy version of the bridge pup.

Try to get a HFH. Its really good. Order from online or gain10 or all Music. Or post an ad.

Yes.

yes. humbuckers sound like humbuckers. Hot rails sound closer to humbucker but not the actual sound. They also dun sound like single coils

I believe the S520EX comes in a floyd rose bridge. X2n is not F-SPACED. If you install it, i dont know wat will happen man.
