Need help with buying 1st electric guitar!!

the best deal in town for a starter pack is found in city music. i don't work for them but just my honest opinion because i helped some friends scout for good and cheap starter packs recently.

their house brand, craftsman, are friggin' awesome for the price, i'm actually lil sore nobody was around to help me find such deals when i 1st started electric 7 years ago.

i heard craftsman guitars are actually factory OEMs of more popular brands, thus their more bang for the buck. if you're set for function over brand, then you should consider the GS200 for a les paul styled guitar or the ST130 for a strat styled guitar. best of all, the starter package comes with a spider IV 15 watt amp, which is good for the price.

this is the best 1st hand gear you can get at your budget of $350. if you find more happening deals let me know because i'm pretty sure this beats everything out there right now.

well... he did say his budget was for the guitar ONLY~~~
haha, nice recommendation though.

oh dang, i totally missed the only part.. but if that's the budget, i'd still recommend the craftsman. no kidding!

i'm guessing (without exaggeration) if they were branded, they would cost about twice their current price or slightly less. That $280 ST130 feels like my yamaha pacifica 410mkII which cost about $600 when i got it at music plaza. you guys should try them out when you pass by city music next time. i couldn't believe it myself so i went down with my friend to test it out.

as of last week, i think they offer free setup and string changing service for one year after purchase. great service for beginners me thinks.

dont the some units of the fender strats have a trem system/buckles? :o honestly isnt the appearance the only diff? headstock/sharpen horns? and preference too of course

basically the term superstrat was coined to describe a souped up version of the strat .... though these days we dont really hear ppl use the term much ...

i agree with Mirrorboy, try the lower end of Ibanez Rg. one of my friends owns one them, and he like it
i saw a few reviews on the ibanez grg170 and grg 270 and they said the floating bridge on the guitar made it a lil hard for string changing
whats that about

+1 to madwerewolfboy's recommendation to craftsman strats.

i actually wished the strat was my first guitar. compared to the epiphone les paul 100 i bought as a first guitar 5 years ago, this strat totally killed it in terms of sound, feel and the price. no kidding

i had a go at it during a jam at AMG studios. they have craftsman strats and les pauls. felt like the guitar was made for me. loved the humbucker and single coils, pretty much what i wanted it to sound.

didnt have a go at the trem arm but the guitar pretty much stayed in tune after 1 hr of crazy palm muting, bending and vibrato. pretty much whoaaah.

i too am considering if i could buy one. hahaha

eh? superstrat i thought they referred to strat looking guitars with 24 frets? had the impression 24 frets was the main characteristic of a superstrat more than sharper edges and floating whammys

dont mind me asking this but other than that extra 2 notes is there any diff between a 22/24?

from a guitar geek's point of view, i think neck pickup of the a 24-fret guitar is very slightly closer to the bridge, it's no longer below the 24th fret which makes it pick up a different set of harmonics! lol
