Need help on deciding pickups

Hi! I've an epiphone les paul standard and thinking of changing the pickups. Thinking of getting SD alnico pro II cos wanna make Slash's sound, for playing sweet child o mine. But will it be wise to get two of the same pickups like slash?

Was thinking of putting the alnico pro II at the neck and pearly gates at the bridge. I dun need to sound exactly like slash but will it be suitable since i'll be playing other slower rock and jrock songs?

Oh where can i get those pickups too?

I think you need to get your facts right. Changing your pickups will not make your guitar sound like Slash's. There are many things that contribute to a guitarist's tone like effects, amps, playing style, settings and so on.

if you really want Slash's sound, changing the Pick-ups aren't the only thing you gotta do to have his sound. try getting the same type of amp, pedals, efx etc.

Thanks for the info. Anyway i'm not trying to aim to be exactly same as him. Jus wanna play the song with the sound being more similar. Need a direction of the type of sound i wanna make first right? If not i won't be able to decide which kind of pickups to choose at all.

Other than youtube, are there other ways to hear how different pickups will sound?

SD and dimarzio webbies have soundtracks of their pickups but for dimarzio its not so accurate cos its on diff guitars and amps.

get the seymour duncan 59'. they come as a set of neck and bridge. 165 for the set, 125 each if you bbuy separately. its similar to the aph, just that the mids are more scooped.

I guess i'm suffering from GAS to a certain extent.

I'm using a roland 15x cube. Living in hdb so dun think got too much use getting a high watt amp. I jus didnt really like the sound of the stock pickups with the epiphone lp so hoping to get pickups that will be able to make sounds i like. I know my current amp will limit the abilities of the pickups and guitar but there will be difference in the sound as long as i change the pickups right?

yes, they will sound different. how different, quite hard to explain in words. best is to either try out a guitar equiped with the pickups u have in mind, or get them swapped urself. try getting 2nd hand pickups if u don't know what u are looking for because they are cheaper and pickups generally don't wear and tear that fast so they're as good as new. just make sure the wire is long enough for wiring in ur guitar.

the difference in tone when distortion is applied is not as marked as cleans. u can probably obtain nice tones with ur current setup with a change of eq on the amp. i don't think anything can sound too bad on a cube 15x though..

I try mine neck with SD alnico II, with distortion, quite like slash.. but u must rmb the woman tone thing.. roll ur tone knob to zero.. u will get quite like slash tone..

nope. woman tone is very hard to get and its more than just tone knob at zero. slash's neck pickup tone is not the woman tone. its not very difficult to get. just get a warm paf style pickup, and a marshall sounding drive and u're 50% there alrdy. probably the way you pull of the licks contribute to the other 50%

You're confusing me... You say Slash's neck pickup tone is not the woman tone, then you ask him to get a warm PAF pup? The aph IS a warm PAF pup wat!

Actually, woman tone is very easy to get. If you already have a PAF styled pup (doesn't matter A2, A4 or A5), you can already get it... For the guitar, it's more about the cap values inside than anything.
