Hi guys,

currently is study at SAE and going ORD at end of this month. Was looking for job n career in the audio industries. I dun really mind abt long working hours, low pay and tough job. Cos my main objective is to hit into the audio industries or any job related to audio such as multimedia, entertainment and media. Anyone who have any lobang can pm mi or reply to this topic. Thankz you

dude...u in sae now eh...cool..i am goin there next yr..for the march intake.
was there the other day to look around...the place is really cool.
can share some experience of ur life there.
thank u...

like wat sort of job attachment u have etc...those part time projects..any job u got outside that u got paid for etc?? any u r in the diploma course eh? coz i wanna know abt ns deferment..

thankz

One, I think it's best you serve NS first then go SAE after ORD. The industry is very here and now. If you complete SAE, then go army, you'll be out of touch very quickly. :)

They moved to BEncoolen Street right? I grad from there in 2001.

oouh i see i see..so did u go straight after ur Os or from poly etc??

i tot of goin to proper poly in the FSV course and then go ns and then go sae etc etc...or university etc...coz like sae is like something u learn n specialise but i still need a solid education to fall back on...thats wat i think lar...

Dood you'll need ALOT of contacts. Be prepared to work hard. But most importantly dont wimp out on what you do. Once you're this established producer only then you can sign my grim, krieg, br00tal and utmost kvlt band and together we rule this tiny island!

If you're going for FSV, then no need to go SAE liao. They are not so vastly different. YOu might wanna take a peek at LaSelle's Music Production courses too. Best is talk in detail with the lecturers all over the place to get a better idea of the courses. It's a lot of hard work, cos they're mainly projects. Not so much about exams, cos you are usually measured by what you produce anyway. BUT! Having a good grounding in theory is an important element in what your hands can produce, so dun say I say paper stuff not important ah.

Anyway, tho your passion may be in music, dun shut the doors to other things that you can do. Look at James. He also likes music, but now he is animation/media producer (something like that)
.
I went SAE after I ORD, cos I dun wanna spend 3 yrs studying. No $$.

music and audio technology in SP is pretty good too...similar to SAE audio engineering...but i feel like SAE provide better equipment n facilites..and the learning style n environment is more fun n cool....

but as any other parents, my dad doesnt want me to go there as he say no recognization etc....then like my future etc....he say government poly better and etc...

but i feel tat since i will be taking the similar course either poly or sae, and be in the similar field n industry, whats e diff?? hmm....even with my POLY diploma not like i can easily get other jobs beside being in this industry...i am in a dilemma man....

i really like SAE style n concepts..but the money is not mine...haha

how u guys live with juz an sae diploma ar?? getting jobs etc...do employee like taking sae grads etc? but i noe tat ultimately....if we are involve in this industry, its ur skill n talent that matters and ur connections...and ur reputation....over time u build all tat and people u like u will still come to u rite??

Actually One, what your Dad says is correct.

Unless you are absolutely sure you have the knack for Sound Engineering, to be a really good producer, its really a gamble to go for it alone.

It is recognised that in Singapore, its a small market. Everyone knows everyone else.

Your dad is concerned abt your rice bowl... its better to spend your younger years studying and getting good credentials than to realise years down, that you need to get that paper... and what will you do then? Work and take a part time course.

Why do that later when you can get it settled now with a good backing, then go do whatever else you want to? At least if your forray into SAE doesn't work out, you have something fall on, something that is more reliable.

I mean, present a dip. from SAE to a company looking for any diploma grads, and i tell you, they will choose the government poly dip holder over you.

I kena EXACTLY that problem. I couldn't find a job having grad in the troubled times (2001 - 2003). Did an ill-fated stint in an audio products reselling company. Good thing I was able to get a job as a trainee translator where i gained another skill set, and suddenly I went in another direction (still working towards this direction by taking up third, fourth ...language). But the skills i got in SAE still applies lah.

Actually even for FSV students, some of them do freelance and all sorts after they grad, cos there're very few 'white-collar' jobs available for this type of qualification. It's a very weird committment, I find. Multimedia has better chance as there are more boutique design companies who hire these people. Audio engineering guys...quite a gamble...unless you got lobang before you even entering the course.

In short, the job hunt experience for me was hell.

Oh yeah, one more hting, pls do research on what working as an Audio Engineer, Producer, or any of the arts/multimedia jobs...

Reason being, true you might love the subject, mixing your music, playing your guitar, designing your masterpieces... BUT... be sure you know what you are getting into.

For example, I want to do Computer Programming. Did you know the amount of OT a programmer in a small company does? Did you know that he must constantly update/upgrade himself. or lose out? So on so forth.

If what the job demands, you have problem meeting... better spend time thinking very carefully over it.

Not that there's bad jobs and what not... but many of us, young and idealistic, never realise there's more to the job than just pure passion.
So choose if you want to follow your passion but bear the demands of the job.. or relegate your passion into a sideline thing and get something that you can deal with.

hey dan! thankz man...wat u say have really confirm the things which many other people keep on sayin to me including my dad...hmmm guess i have to really think properly n not juz do based on the burning desire as a teenage now and not think of wat the future lies ahead for me....

anyway anyone from Singapore Poly here who knows how the facilities is there for recording studio etc...the instrument provided..the mixer..the equipment etc...

i hope they provide quality stuffs like wat sae does...and sae has a very small number of students thus each student can have more time using the facilities etc...

Hey man... no prob... its good to see that you decided to sit back and think a bit... :)

As for Singapore Poly... one thing abt it... its got repute. Sure, they might not be the best in the audio business, but they definately will not shoot themselves in the foot by giving some crap audio course. But don't take my word for it... best to find people who can confirm this.

Hi,

so anyone got any contacts regarding the topic or anyone whose company need any audio related position pls do let mi noe. Thankz you
