ok.. im thinking of investing in a small setup with

2 vocal mics ( w/stands )
mixer 8 - 12 channels
power amp
( or a powered mixer )
two P.A speakers (w/stands )
all the neccesary cables and stuff.

will be mainly for acoustic guitar sets and vocals, including keyboards and sax.

how much wattage do i need to be able to fill say... a function room size with 30 people. with sound? i really dont think i need anything louder... as rest of the time i will use it at home for practise and stuff.

what brands are good value for money? and what kinda prices should i expect?
it would be good if the system is easy to use and setup/move.

pls help guys!!! or anyone knows anyone selling sumthing like that 2nd hand????

okie..for your case of price..
i recommond u,
2 pcs-SRM450 Mackie Active Speakers cost about $2k plus
very easy to use.user friendly.check www.mackie.com
buy 1 pair of speaker stand.

Mixer-Mackie CFX12 as there is build in effects for you,for example your vocals need reverb, you can select which kind you want to use.
**cables this all can buy from Ranking Sport at Baras Barsah.
you need 2 mic cables line to link your two speakers,2 cables for your mic.

mics buy from sim lim square, Shure Sm58.
**if you have instruments like sax,you can use Sm58 or Sm57 if you want good sound lah..keyboards and acoustic guitars can be direct to the mixer..

this things are easy to move around, pack and go.can put in your car somemore.yeah man!

a 13A point should be enough for all this stuffs..cause its not eating lots of power lah..

your budget will be around 3-5k plus ah..i think so..i used them before..so i know roughly about them..need any help do free to PM me..thanks man..

And just in case you don't have 3-5k lying around....

City Music carries Wharfedale Pro, which is a cheap and good brand of PA equipment. Friend of mine bought a PA set for about $500-600. Includes 2 passive speakers with stand, a power amp and 1 mic with stand.

Most passive PA systems (with power amp) are priced under 1k. Good enough for small room settings but totally useless in any outdoor ones. If you're using the PA just for vocals and saxophone, just get good mics. If you plan to put instruments through it, either get a powered mixer or individual DIs for each instrument.

Best advice: go and find out the prices yourself and don't be afraid to ask the salesmen in each shop.

hee.hee.. i think chan min made the plunge and got what's best for his money. will let him tell you what he gotten.

Yamaha Speakers are very cheap now......get 2 pieces of YAMAHA MSR-400 Active bout 80 bucks per piece without stand.in fact if u onli need a small mixer not such a big one, get yamaha stagepas 300 not bad (a set of power mixer and speakers 300 watt. 4 XLR inputs i bought one from hung bros 700-800 plus)

1 mixer of ur choice(depends on buget i would go for yamaha/mackie/the cheaper behringer)people seldom use power amps though.

Mics wise it depends on wad u want some people sound great on sm58($160) but not that great on sm58beta so it is a user prefrence. The behringer 3 pcs mic set is also "ok" for normal use in fact for its price(around 50-60 dollars) it outshines AT Midnight blue series. sennheisers e835($110)/e845($140) are also gd choices. Beware there are fake sm58s and 57s around.
You may also want to get wireless mics where sennheisers evo100 g2 cost bout 800-1000 dollars? or the alternative is shure(more expensive).
I you are buget concious get the audiotechnica 200 series ($600).

For cables, i only use canare ones with neutrik head(personal choice).

You may also consider in ear monitors if u are not on a tight budget. Dummers tend not to be able to hear the band.(Rolls has a cheap one 400 plus $)

FYI Prices is to what i remember i saw it as.

Chanmin

hope u still remember me. Is a bit late to reply now hope i still can able to help u save cost. Just go citymusic buy the cheapest pa system the wharfedale pro 600...2nd hand if stil lavaible only cost me 450. U got power mixer, 2 speaker with stand somemore, a mic...1st hand cost abt 595 if i remember correctly.
