Need help for an under utilized bass.

Hi guys.

I have a Fender P-bass that has not been used or taken out from its bag for about 2 years. So now I take it out and realised there are many problems with it.

The volume and tone knobs can't be turned at all. They are stuck I think due to the dirt and grime accumulated over time. The input jack has very bad contact I think also because of all the dirt accumulated inside, gives a lot of feedback when the cable is moved.

Apart from that, the bass still has sound when plugged into the amp. Any idea on how to fix the above problems?

Thanks in advance!

it should undergo an electronics make over: pot + input jack replacement. while you are at it, have the instrument set-up as well.

Thanks for the swift reply subversion.

Yep, I was also thinking it needs to be professionally looked at. Do you have any good and trustworthy places in mind to recommend?

the pots might be tight due to oxidation. my advice is buy a can of contact spray, open the electronics compartment and spray the insides of the pot before you decide to replace them. 1 CTS pot would cost you about $9 each so if you include all that plus worksmanship, you'd rather spend that money on a box of contact spray.

If the electronics still don't work as they should, by all means replace them. If CTS pots on vintage guitars can still work after 40 years, I don't see no reason why the modern day CTS pots can't.

Btw why did I mention CTS? Well cos most MIA Fenders are equipped with those pots.
