Need good luthy

firebreather

Hi all,

I did a search but couldn't find anything. Now I know this is a sensitive subject with a lot of history so let's all try to be respectful.

I want to make major modifications to my guitar - specifically routing of a humbucker and sanding my guitar neck down to a nice 60's slim taper profile. Any recommendations?

Thanks in adv.

I guess, the first part about routing humbuckers, the usual workshops here (GW, GC, Zen) should be able to do it.

The second part may be a bit more tricky. Firstly, Not sure if sanding would do the job. Probably the wood need to be shaved off.
Second, the neck would have the trussrod sunk in to an optimal depth suitable to the original profile of the neck. The stability of the neck may be affected. If there is a skunk stripe, it would probably have to be removed and shaved separately.

Very difficult to gauge this but an Intersting one though. If you ever get it done, do share your experience ya. and maybe you may want to share what guitar is this that you're planning to modify?

Thanks for the info obzervr

I'm sorry GW, Zen? I'm not too familiar with the two places

No skunk stripe, just a regular mahogany neck on a Gibson SG. I know it's tricky, that's why I need a good luthier. I might just leave it as it is for now if there really isn't anyone, plus I'm slowly getting used to the baseball bat of a neck, I think.

GW = Guitar Workshop. location is at Bras Basah complex, same level as where Swee Lee and Ranking are. it's tucked away in the corner. if you're taking the escalator, it's on your right.

Zen = Zen Guitarworks at Peninsula Plaza. tons of guitar shops at the basement, walk around and you'd definitely see it.

TidesOfBlood: Thanks for the info man!, I'll definitely check them out.

Julian_Lee: Mixed feelings but I'm not judging, will give him a call soon and see how that goes. Thanks!.

RyanZ: Yo man, how's it going, haven't the time actually but I'm certainly doing some mods by the end of this month. :]

it might be cheaper ( more cost effective )
to get a replacement neck which suits your needs
then to customise your existing nect

also can revert back to original spec neck if ever needed.

No worries.. for me, Malcolm always work for me. He knows exactly what I want and how to set it up properly for me.

It's very subjective and you got to try them out and know who works best for you :)

Ratboy: Thanks, but my guitar is a set neck not a bolt on.

Julian_Lee: It's my current favourite guitar so I think a trial and error isn't exactly what I want to be doing but I will check him out. Thanks!
