Hi All,

Just to gather some opinion. Now that there is an inch widening for political participation announced at the National Day Rally 2008, do you foresee that songs with political advocacy (Can't think of any now), on human rights (john lennon's 'woman is the nigger of the world') or even political satires ('This Old Man' song seen at you tube) be freely aired, shared or even discussed in forums like Soft?

p.s. I don't work for any political party ;).

Any Comments?

Definitely not on SOFT. Cos we do not have the resources to moderate these discussions.

Any discussion on politics should be posted on www.reach.gov.sg .

i dunno about you, but i try not to take local media at face value. especially politics, because of the lack of freedom, and the way that people get around it is itself an art.

my initial impression of the things he said about the political landscape was that maybe, he was not satisfied with the current cabinet. that would hardly be surprising given the recent major events in this sphere

I'm not really looking at discussions on partisan politics but artistic expressions that speaks of reality of life. Of course I am aware that any topic can be politicised by anyone that view life from a legalistic political lens. However, to reflect back on the development of Blues for instance, it was definitely a song by the oppressed for the oppressed and the source of motivation for many decades. Some social scientist said the same for rap and hip hop.
