hi to all softies...can i ask you guys...

how do we know what tones does different pickups/humbuckers give?how do i try them out before buying them?

i ask cus im thinking of upgrading my squier strat but they use single pickups.can i do something to it so that they can house humbuckers?if pickups can get the tone that im looking for, then im happy enough with pickups.

im kinda looking for tones that are versatile.aloowing me to play mostly any genre possible.artist reference are like, arctic monkeys, oasis.just two of the main sounds im looking for.also looking for not that expensive.hope there is an answer.help me im new to this kind of thing.was wondering to change the tone of the strat since everything is stock.

Single coils give a brighter, more transparent sound. Humbuckers, which are simply 2 single coils wired together in SERIES, give a heavier tone because its the power of 2 single coils in 1. This cancels out some frequencies, which is why single coils sometimes have noise when u add too much distortion. A humbucker wired in parallel will give the sound of 2 separate single coils, NOT a fatter humbucker tone. A few options if u want a humbucker in ur all single coil Squier. First, u can re-route ur pickup slot to fit a humbucker. This will be expensive, time-consuming and may not be worth the money. Also, there is a risk of something going wrong during the re-routing. Next, u can use a stacked humbucker. This is a humbucker the size of a single coil. The 2 coils are stacked 1 on top of the other. Or u can use a hi-output single coil like the Seymour Duncan Hotrails. Lastly, u can use a pickup booster. It is an external device that boosts the signal of ur pickups externally. It can turn a single coil tone into a more humbucker like tone, although i'm not sure if the hum cancelling properties of a humbucker will apply with the booster. An example will the the Tesla pickup booster.

do note that stacked humbuckers do not sound exactly like real humbuckers..
more of somewhere in between..
you can also consider soap bars such as P-90s which are by right single coils..
however, im not so sure about this, cause i think the P-90s are larger than single coils..
so it cant fit into the same cavity..

yeah but looks play a part..
most who view it for the first time will think that its not a single coil, and is not a hum too..
so people can be easily swayed by such a common misconception..

ok well looks dont mean as much to me as much as sound does.i've read certain threads here about pick ups too and got to know of the the difference it makes between single or humbucking pickups when distorted.my squier strat which has that single pick ups always give this distortion together with some sandy sounds like lets say not clean distort.i tried tweaking the ds-1 knobs but still can say im not satisfied still.i want to get that full sound when i distort it.and yes might i would to stress on the word "FULL" again when i distort it.

so is it true that humbuckers can give me what i want?
if so then since my strat can only fit single pick ups,i should go for the double stacked single pick ups?

oh my i need help...

you need a single-coil sized humbucker

sub will that fit the strat?it looks a bit "fatter" then mine.

will these give me the sound that i was looking for?that full sound when distorted?

and how much are these?im really those budget newbies dude hahaha.can't afford much im only working at night safari and schooling in lasalle sure does take a lot of your money.

oh yeah where can i find em'?

get a set of fender hot noiseless pups...

sgl coil but hum cancelling...

very nice & versatile

the single-coil sized pickups were meant to fit into Fenders especially. price range: $90-$120 per pickups. available @: Davis

now to figure out how many do i need...90 aint cheap...and how much will it affect the sound...uh ah uh ah uh ah uh ah uh ah uh ah uh ah uh ah uh ah uh ah uh ah uh ah uh ah

Might i suggest the Tesla Pickup Booster available @ Standard Value. It has active humbucker circuitry inside so u can get anything frm a super-hot humbucker to a low output humbucker. It retails at $220, from here: www.standardvalue.com.sg.

oh sorry.i thought it was under the pick ups section.it was found in the pedals section.damn it!EX!
