well...when i first got my SKB..its had that "wonderful" smell that u described.....i decided to leave it open and sun it for a few days..the smell eventually went away..nothing works better than exposing those smelly bacteria to some UV rays..

well, what i do is that i air the case for a couple of days, then chuck a couple of sneaker balls in my hardcase... you can get sneaker balls from any sports shop. it gets rid of most of the smell... but most hardcases will have the funky hardcase smell for a long long time... my '93 Les Paul hardcase and my '91 SG hardcase... both average 15 years already still got smell so... guess you got to get used to it!!

and no, the smell doesnt affect tone la. not unless you are eric johnson.
