my latest SRV project

Just to share wt U guys my latest SRV project ..

this is no 5, the previous 4 were sold to various buyers / SRV fans over the years.

headstock - neck is a WD vintage style with 21 jumbo frets. Decals bought from vintagemojo.com. Gold kluson tuners are Gotoh.

body is a squierr bought from fellow softie penguin. All holes thatwere drilled were repluged. Body was seasoned and rlicked according to available info toreplicate SRV's No 1 axe - around the post el mocambo vid era. SRV stcker in reflective sticker and "custom" sticker - self made

Pickguard is an org Fender b/w/b - 11 holes cozI have a habit of sticking my picks in the pkguards and suitedbetter than the 8 hole guards. Pots, selector, 3 tex mex pups all bought from a fellow sotie (forgot your name bro, sorry). Pick up covers and knobs changed to actual vintage relicked ones obtained by rumaging through Dan Music's old stock parts. All parts rewired with vintage style balck & white cloth wires and internal areas grounded with shielding paint & foil. Gold lefthand bridge from Gotoh. Saddles are original Fender, chrome but withhthe help of a friend was "golded" with 18K gold.

the aging doesnt look authentic enough bro...
you may wanna rub some graphite powder (colour the guitar with a 6B pencil) for a more realistic "dirty look"

Yes, well I donno about the graphite but for a final, final relic look I would rub in a little bit of cigarette ash mixed with water in certain spots.

My srv is not 100% done yet as you can see, the neck is still virgin clean - will work on that soon. It has however been strung up and I'm goiung through trial test at Dan studios with his big 100 watt amps to test the tone, sound etc...

More pixs to come at it's final stage, especially the back of the guitar, SRV strap and hat.

Basically it took me about a month (my first two srvs took me over 6 months).

It's really a traumatic expirience relicking a perfectly mint 3 tone sunburst body but u gotta picture the final product if u wanna get over the initial trepedation.

BTW I used a combination of black and red wood stain then black english oil to darken the raw wood areas that were stripped. Several coats needed. I sealed this with clear laquer than removed the gloss with Tamiya 2000 grit sandpaper.

The tex mex pups I have on isnt comparable to the texas specials I had on my previous srvs so I will get some soon.

Neck, as mentioned earlier is pure virgin so I will be doing the rounded edges for a more "played in feell.

erm... bro you wanna seriously consider graphite... basically just colouring the guitar with a pencil... and wiping it off properly...it wont even dirty your white clothes over a 3hr sweaty gig.. OH and the ciggarette ash mixture will most prob smell terrible... to non smokers..at least.


For reference , heres my own "srv" diy relic. 62 reissue body with a Warmoth SRV neck.

After sanding and covering the exposed areas with graphite powder.

Bro chan min - yeah real sweet relic U got there ... maybe can do a Rory Gallerger tribute?

I use a lotta graphite for my "aero modeling" relicking (weathering to al u model kakis) and also use if for my axe nuts, mixed with a litte grease.

hahah dun worry, the ash wont stink up your axe (for non smokers) after being mixed with water ....

Depends on whether 1st hand or 2nd hand - as mine was mostly 2nd except for the WD neck (which I got at traders price since I hold an account with them) and org fender pickguard - safe to say I paid around sgd 500 + / - for the whole thing with gold plating etc, relicking material etc ....

hey Chanmin, i think you can probably add a little more authenticity to your relic by aging the PG and plastic parts as well. theres a website called relicdeluxe with a good tutorial on ageing the plastic parts. (;
