My Honest Opinions of the recordings heard recently

I'm both happy and sad to have a local music forum as popular as this one. Happy, because there is a place to meet and interact with local musicians and music lovers. Unhappy, simply cause of the lack of honesty in this place.

For the love of god and liberty...how can you praise 80% of the players here in the soft recordings and etc. One good example being this member called satch...in simple American Idol words of "the" simon cowell. Its appaulling with a capital A , ghastly with a captial G and horrendous with a capital H. There are many honourable mentions i shan't mention, but they are the same reason as to why i watch American Idol. Its hilariously funny.

Of course. There are tons of awesome players here...we all know it and no need to mention them. Lets all be honest and say what you really want to say to these horrible recordings that litter the grounds of this forum. Is praising them by telling them "they rock" and " you like their style" going to make them a better player? Sure, they're young give them a chance you might say...but i think you'd be doing them a better favour by giving them the hurt of truth.

I recently heard the butchering of two classic songs. One by guns and roses and one by deep purple. Which the songs i won't mention and the person covering i won't mention. I really hope i am being discreet...cause i do not wish to embaress the person. I mean...if i were Axl rose or Richie Blackmore...i'd sue him...hell yeah i'd sue.

In the near future, i do hope people can be honest about it, it helps nuture the young players and not give them false hope and faith of sounding like the next guitar god.

tsk. This really irks me how you guys like to play heros. But, still you all totally avoided the question. Are the recordings worth the praise you all have thrown. You all know of whom i refer to. If post count, counts for weight, mike mann. Then you must be using your post count to make up for the lack of something.

Ok, how do YOU know the people are not sharing their honest opinions on the recordings? If you want to give your honest opinions go ahead, no one is stopping you. Keep in mind you don't have to flame, after all every one has their own taste. Just like how some people despise heavy metal music while some love it. Get what I mean?

even if someone told me i sucked, it doesnt matter, cos thats gonna make me wanna play even better. true that i am nt a good guitarist. bt at least i am giving things a try. that shows that i am willing to accept cirtism and i am willing to learn from people.

well, if u read my thread, u would realise that i have nv heard the actual burn recording and what i did was jst a jam. jam, means u play what u feel like. so dont expect me to sound like blackmore.

hw did i butcher sweet child? using guitar to play the vocal lines? or rather me nt sounding like slash in the aspect of tone and playing?

If you go digging. I have never once left any comments on any of the soft recordings. My expertise is elsewhere, and I don't need to list what my contribution in soft forum, if you being here long enough, you'd know me. I log in almost daily.

But seriouly most of the local recording suck big time......we possible cant use that to get overseas exposure..maybe the bands can do something about it if they are really committed. get it done in some good studios with GOOD ENGINEERS.

I must say you have a "D" in humor since it was obvious i was pointing out at you in the 2nd last paragraph, even a blind man could have felt it. No, sofyan i wasn't talking about your burn. Regardless of how long you've been learning or what gear you have. Maybe you should show us how 'Sweet Child Of Mine' or 'Burn' should be covered. 8)[/i]

K i usually dun post, but i believe i have to say something.

In Ya Face, i dun really get what you are driving at dude. Comments are comments. A good comment can never change the music. If the music is bad, so be it. But personally i feel that some of the stuff posted are pretty listenable. Butchered is a very strong word to use dude.

Not matter what other pple say, at the end of the day, if it sounds bad, the musician himself will know it. U dun need pple to tell u u suck. U compare and u will know u suck. But good comments keep u going on, to improve on whatever u are doing. Dun expect "give it up la dude, u are bound to fail" to be very inspirational. Ok maybe it works for some. But not for everyone.

One thing u are right, probably everyone shldnt be saying good stuff or whatever. We need to be critical and pinpoint the good and bad. Constructive criticism is key here.

Personally i can understand how u feel. I've got my own band and originals and when i let my friends listen they'd go "yeah tt's good". But i know part of them dun really like it and it's just to spur me on. That's why i'm still holding back and have not posted on soft for pple to listen. It's still not good enough to me.

Anyways, i feel that it's ur tone that they are more concerned with.

Everybody's entitled to their own opinions and comments dude, and I guess in the scenario when it's gonna make some people unhappy, we'd best keep them to ourselves. Even being a professional player doesnt give you the right to tell people what to say as far as their comments about other people's work is concerned. If it's really a strain on your ears as you've made it out to be, the best option is just not to download any of the works of your fellow musicians here. It's really simple, you see?

I agree with Chang.

However, I'd want to add that I see no wrong in a cosy support group (IYF, call it dishonest or whatever you like) where everybody is giving each other high fives and pats on the back irregardless of the music produced. Nobody ever suffered from being "over-encouraged" and to the young musician's ego (and old for that matter) this does wonders that will keep him or her plugging away at that instrument through years of 'sucking' until they finally get good. And I wouldn't say that constructive criticism is totally absent - I've seen a lot of good posts with recommendations.

P.S. If you want to "commit the crime of the century" and create a new anonymous account to start a flame war, it's best that you don't use very unique words in your posts and an easily identifiable punctuation style. It really irks me....when people do that.
