My guitars on TV

Great looking Jumbo.. If only I have the US$4500 to spare, you take instalments? Maybe I can pay for it like I pay for my car..

Great to know that we have got a great luthier from this small red dot.. :P

Hey, how did you get the pic :D Thanks for posting the Jumbo :D As for the payment plan, I'm sorry. I just design and build the guitars. Somebody else is in charge of sales and marketing. I can hook you up with him if you're really keen. He'll be in town for the Jonathan Lee and Emil Chau concert at the Indoor Stadium April 23 :D

The subject guitar is the "Lee Guitar"model B. That's my take on the venerable Jumbo shape although my design is quite a bit more rounded and Klein inspired especially the upper bout and waist area.

All the wood are at least AAA grade, hand built, hand polish, set up for easy comfortable action.

US$4,500 is not an unreasonable price if you knew how much work goes into a "Lee Guitar". They're literally hand made with lotsa sweat, blood and tears and of course TLC. I have a 2 set DVDs showing the 2 guys and myself at work. You'll be impressed.

Most QUALITY hand made guitar start at about US$5000. Notice the word quality in bold coz I just workrd on a recently completed "luthier" crafted bass that needed S$1150 worth of work to get it playing right. This bass was just a few months old.

There're way too many hacks out there claiming to be able to build guitars. Be careful!!!!

hey dude, sorry didn't mean to sound like u were unreasonable in your pricing, am not too familiar with acoustic stuff but i do understand that hand made stuff and top quality materials will definitely contribute to the overall worth of the guitar. thumbs up for sg luthiers! cheers

dude ... i cant afford your guitars...

which is why i am suggesting you offer a BUDGET product line!!!
would that be possible???

Hey, no offense taken :D I forgot to mention I'm just responsible for designing, building and training the guys. I don't sell them guitars :D Thank God coz I would've difficulty letting my "babies" leave the nest. It's still "hurts" to see them go but it good to see them on national TV or on some Mandarin MTV program :D

We're not actually making much $$$ outta the guitars. All our raw materials are imported from the States. It's basically a U.S. custom shop based in China :D Our building style is quite similar to the likes of Collings and Santa Cruz Guitars and we're priced about the same too.

One of Jonathan's point is wanting to build the guitars in China is to show the "world" that we Chinese are capable of building world class instruments read guitars. Chinese made violins are already winning gold medal awards in many international competitions :)

To answer your question, yes, we can always offer a budget line but that's Jonathan Lee's call, not mine. He's the boss :D

Hi there softies, been around for a quite a bit but first post here. Just wanna say I agree with sandking here, very proud that we have great luthiers here in SG. I remember quite a while back I even saw your name in the harmony-central guitar reviews. I was just browsing around when I saw the name "Malcom Tan Guitars" and I gave it a click, and what a present surprise.

Keep up the good work! :smt023

And yes I believe that it's not the least bit overpriced. Though it might not be possible you'll have to try the guitar yourself and see what an ENTIRELY handmade guitar feels and sounds like. It's just different.

Well, guess what??? I'll be on TV this weekend on some Channel U program. I think my Mandarin must be really bad coz I see subtitles on screen :D
