My experience with Attack Heads

Whats up everyone! Its been a long while since I came here, just want to share my experience of using the attack heads for awhile now.

First and foremost, I have to disclaim that I am making comparisons generally to Remo and Evans only cos I've only been exposed to this 2 brands before using the attack heads.

So far, I've used the Attack Snare heads, Terry Bozio Signature heads for my Tama Bubinga snare, and 1 ply coated for my Tama Brass and Steel.

I'll start with my bubinga snare (Terry Bozio Signature heads), I have approximately played on this head for about 10 occassions already. Firstly, I've to say that Attack heads have impressed me with their level of consistency on the heads. I have only needed to fine tune my snare once since I starting using the heads from the start. With the Evans and Remo, I usually have to retune my snare after 3 - 4 jamming sessions.

Initially, my bubinga snare was equiped with the Evan G1 coated. Although I liked the resonance the G1 projects, I felt that the snare sound was over compromised (some might refer this to the tone of the head). To give a better picture, the sound is something that is well projected but the impact of the snare sound is least felt. I not be too sure about the Remo ambassador as I have yet to try it on my bubinga snare. I can also use the centre reverse dot but the projection is then reduced for this one.

The attack 1 ply coated, on the other hand, due to its overall thicker material I believe, has allowed the snare to project pretty well, and yet not losing the sound of the snare, which is exactly how I like my snare to sound (at least my main one).

I did a recording of my bubinga snare with the Terry Bozio batter on about a month ago, sorry about the bad quality, it was recorded with my lousy digi cam!

Ps. I have recently changed the snare side to the Terry Bozio sig as well, I will give a detail review after playing with it more.

I've also change the top heads of my Brass snare and Steel snare to both the Attack 1 ply Coated. Previously I was using the Powerstroke 3, and then the G1 costed on my brass snare and the Reverse Centre dot on the Steel snare.

I'm also liking how the heads allow my snares to project and maintain the snare sound at a decent level, especially with my brass snare. The powerstroke 3 has the thickest snare sound, but the projection of the snare was close to none. Whereas the projection of the G1 was alittle too out of hand.

I will also do alittle recording of both the metal snares maybe sometime next week and give a better review after I play them alittle more often.

Oh, I also have to mention that I used a moon gel to dampen the resonance, cos I was doing the recording at home and I dun have very friendly neighbours, hahah. Hence the sound was alittle dead.

I have also did a studio recording recently with my bubinga snare, will share it here when its ready!

cheers,

Anyway, how much does the Attack heads costs? I would want to try out on my piccolo snare to see how it goes with the sound.

Hi,

I am a newbie here.... imho, the Attack heads are quality products & are 'value for money' in their own right. Recently bought the Attack single ply Medium coated heads for my toms' batter side. To cut a long story short, they do sound good and quite easy to get the heads tuned in to the correct pitch i want and stays consistent. Can't wait to get the single ply clears for the resonant side and see how it goes

And yup...I am in no way affiliated with the brand's local dealer ... Hur hur

ZachDrummer: They are very affordable! Just find day and go down to the places that sells the different drum heads do some comparisons with the prices of remo, evans and attack. You'll be surprised with how much difference the attack heads cost.

I was messing around with the tuning of the Attack 1 Ply Medium Coated on my Tama Brass snare and decided to record alittle:

But after hearing the recording I realised I might have tighten the snare side alittle too much.

3 things I Like about this head:

1. Sound - slightly thicker sound than the Terry Bozio Sig.
2. Rebound level
3. It seems to have a wider sweet spot, the centre of the head has a very consistent sound when striked - good for me as I'm not very accurate everytime, heheh.

I got some Attack heads from Alvin last week and my snare has never sounded better! The Medium 1 ply Coated Heads made the sound so much thicker, yet maintaining the resonance of a single ply head.

People at my church were so impressed with it, we've decided to get more Attack heads as replacements for all the current heads at the drumsets at church!

Thanks Alvin for giving us the good stuff at a great price!

Hi guys, no worries. Just glad you guys like the product! Let us know in 6 months time how the skins sound. You will be amazed by the longevity of the skins!!!

I've heard many many good reviews about ATTACK Heads - but never tried before myself...I heard that - the sound that comes out from the Bass Drum after changing to ATTACK Heads - are Booombastic ... wah shiok if that is the case.

this is cool.

Btw, Alvin how much do these attack skin heads cost. I'm looking forward to get the heads fm you asap.

Hi,

There is too many to list....but as a gauge, a single-ply coated 14" snare head costs $13.65 (our current promo price). After promo period, it'll cost $15.60.

You guys should come check out my drum room. I still have the set of heads from 4 months ago. I play on the skins about 3 hours a day and the coating is still intact!!!!! Its pretty amazing man....

haven't tried it personally, but after reading raving reviews and listening to samples posted by fellow softie spinninsticks about attack heads, i might just head down to alvin's and get them heads!

Hey guys,

Just wanna share my experience with attack heads...

It started just one day before my church camp that the drumset we had to use is a brandless and really old (beated up) set, guess you guys can picture the condition of the drumskins. Our only variable option is to change the skins.

However the cost of the skins might not favor our tight budgeting until I remember about "attack drumheads" which alvin always talk about to me. Some of my friends were rather skeptical about it as they have never heard such brand be4. Nevertheless, we decide to go for it.

What began as a risky buy turn out to be my best buy. We only bought and fixed the batter side (1 ply clear coat) for the toms and kick drum and to my surprise it was really easy to tune (Which I just learnt it only a few days ago). The sound at first was kinda too bright (accompanied with some overtones) for me, thus i put on o-rings and it sounded great. Additionally, when we mic it up, it was mind-blasting!

Lastly, Imagine the potentiality if I would to:
- change the resonant side
- Use a better drumset

p.s. The praise and worship for the camp was awesome.

The attack heads are really hold it down very well for me! Since the last post, I have added in 1 ply coated med on my toms (10 12 16) and for about 3 weeks already (plus one session of real bashing in a studio), I have yet to retune any of them.

Their coating are pretty durable as well. Till date, there is no coating droppin out of the head and the stick marks are very minimal. In fact, I think if one uses sticks with clean tips (ie not used on other drums), the heads can remain clean for a very long time!

Some time back I bought a set of these skins for a public performance venue, changed out all the skins on that drumset since they were getting very worn out.

A few months down the road, they're still in very good condition even after all the heavy usage!
