Has anyone seen the MXR GT-OD around in shops locally? I'm looking to get one.

Thanks in advance for any input!

Ebanex...

I tried it... its quite impressive if you are into the SD-1 (is it symmetrical or asymmetrical clipping?) kind of vibe/tones.

Its not for me though, still thins the tone, very prominent if you play single notes. Low end is pretty much retained but using a neck single coil, its perhaps slightly farty.

Thanks Shred! you're really quick on the reply. I'll go check it out. Actually i just want it as a boost, to stack with my main distortion. I've been using a TS-9 for stacking in getting tighter gain tones.

I came across an artiste (whom i admire) that uses this as a stack to boost his tones, hence i'm just looking to try it out.

Haha, just noticed it and its something I can yak about.

Whats wrong with the TS9? (Okay, those of you who know I'm a TS9-hate, shaddup. ) It works fine for boosting and should get you your higher gained tones with ease... especially as per what you mentioned, getting tighter (read, bass cut) tones.

This artiste you admire... what's it about his tone/sound that made you tick for this new overdrive?

Well you're right about tight and bass cutting. But i simply dig that.

I'm just wondering if the GT-OD does all that tightening up and boosting in a similar/better way. The TS-9 is not that usuable on its own, i'm hoping to get something that is but at the same time does what the TS does.

You would get similiar results, i'm sure... just whether the "mix" is right.

A nice alternative would be that MI Audio pedal, Blues Pro or something, it has lots of knobs for tweaking. That would be good.

There are some pedals that overdo the tightening effect, e.g. Guyatone OD-2, when used as a booster. Yuck.

Btw, I'm coming from the camp where I like my bass/low-end to be slightly loose-ish... I don't enjoy the tightening/bass-cut as much.

ah okok thanks for the inputs. Will go try the pedal and experience the difference.

I'm the exact opposite i guess. i like tight chugs, bass cut is secondary. Thanks again!

Well then you would prob like the Box Of Rock, it's really loose and has great bottom end. In fact i use my TS-9 to tighten that up as well, that's what the GT-OD will do too.

Yeah i had the Krank Distortus Maximus but sold it. It's not exactly the tone in my head.

I'm currently on the Righteous Tones Fang. It's brutal and doesn't need any pushing from the TS-9. I'm satisfied with it...for the moment.

I get what you mean about Fuzz' and Distortion. Guess it's just the difference in the genre of music we make huh.
