The price differences is ard 1.6k and above. (Musicman more ex of cos :))

I like the color of the ernie stingray I feature in my blog.

It got a shell pickguard and and 3 band Eq with piezo. coolz

cheers,

..

the overall feel of the musicman is a lot more well made instrument than an olp.

soundwise, the musicman is a lot more punchy and loud. eq adjustment is possible due to its preamp.

Hi. the tony Levin OLP also got 3 band eq so can also adjust the sound right.
So you feel that OLP is value for money but still the REAL stuff better if can afford right?

Gibson vs Epiphone/ Fender vs Squier... not quite a fruitful comparison there.

i'd urge you to check out the SUB bass. no, it's NOT a stingray, forgive it fot looking like one. consider it a mid-way offering, between the stingray & the OLP. it's certainly reflecting a mid-way price tag.

Do they have SUBs with maple fretboards? Then I'd change out the pickguard and you'd have something close to a 'ray with a matching headstock ;) hahahaa

I get this strange feeling that a SUB is subversion's signature model... :P
Joke aside, if the subs were like priced $200 cheaper I'd be hankering over them. But seriously, I like how the OLPs, SUBs and MMs form a nice family. I'd like to try a SUB 5 as a working bass.

Not sure about what you guys think, but I personally find that Music Man 'rays differ from OLPs in the following aspects:

1) The sound. I suppose I can safely assume that it's due to the difference in tonewoods and electronics used.

2) Weight, probably due to hardware and tonewoods used.

3) The neck. I personally find the necks on OLPs chunkier and slightly more unwieldy......the Music Man 'rays that I've tried seem to have skinnier necks.

Just my two cents worth.....probably pretty worthless info, considering I'm not that familiar with 'rays in the first place!

WOW 8O that would be great!! gettings guitars/ basses for free, then i can spare you some...

the SUB basses are quite affordable:

*Passive: $980
*Active: $1,180

Just wondering if I wanna spend 2k on a bass.

Would I get the variaz 705 or Musicman Stingray. Since Variax got quite a number of good basses model and include musicman sound as well.
More versatile.

Guess if people can afford they rather get musicman than OLP right?

hi ben!

i've read reviews on how the variax bass is more true to the diff bass modelling sounds than the guitar counterpart, plus it does look like stingray 5 (the pickguard la). definately value for money.

i guess it all depends on u personally whether u wanna spend more than $2K on a brand new stingray (i saw at US online shops... around S$3K actually brand new)

the SUBs looks real garang(fierce) esp that pickguard! lol.. reminds me of old bus flooring.

Hi Ravenelle, Yeah if you read my blog can see that to order Musicman, it will take a long time to reach and at leats 2k and above loh.

If it;s me I will prefer Variax lah. Tried the 4 string before. Cool.

Guess osme people will prefer warwick, fender, Yamaha TRB series , Fodera and etc.

But for me.. my skill not gd enuff to own such an expensive bass. haha

Ah, but you see ben, the variax might be able to mimic the sound of many various basses, but an emulator will never be able to truly compare to the real thing. :)

And besides, theres alot more to a bass than just the sound, if not i suspect the variax will be alot more popular than it is now and alot of bass makers would start making losses.

As for me, i'll probably only get a variax as a studio emulator, when you can't afford to bring more than one bass along and the post producers will be able to tweak the sound until it sounds as close as possible to the real thing on recording, but i'll not use it as a live gig bass. :D

Lol, stingrays feel fantastic, to me lah, some people really can't stand the stingray feel. It might not be for you however, cuz you're currently using a jazz bass and, correct me if i'm wrong, but you like the feel of it? The stingray neck is chunkier than that of a jazz bass, closer to the precision bass neck.

But that said, its relatively easy to adapt to, i moved from an ibanez to a stingray 5, the neck's of those two basses are like night and day man, but the change was really smooth despite the difference, which says alot about the playability of the stingray's neck.

Re: ..

hur hur hur

don't get me wrong, but i have a bass pod lah, so its line6 lurve spread all over this thread yah???

..

yeah SR necks are quite thick, but its manageable. i can't do baseball bats though... like a warwick streamer i tried last week.

Tried a Warwick Thumb 5 before. Quite thick.

Oh i'm quite happy and comfortable with my Squier Jazz maybe been using it all the while so when I tried other bass.. cannot adapt yet.

Btw the Sub's pickguard looks familiar :p

Lol, then you should continue getting basses with a similar feel, a fender jazz, sadowsky, lull, plenty of high end jazz bass makers out there. :D

Ramone, how does your stingray compare to your zon man?
