Musical taste "defines personality"

To certain extend I would agree. But the music preferences also depends on the introduction/availability of such music to the person since young.

Those who like soul music can take heart as the research concluded they are creative, outgoing, gentle, at ease with themselves and have a high self-esteem.

Ironically, the father of Soul - Ray Charles, battled with low self-esteem from childhood to middle age. He kept blaming himself for the death of his younger brother and turned to drugs to numb himself.

I'd say that today-pop listeners are people who want to be trendy and hip.

Haha, I find the heavy metal classification quite true though. I always hate the stereotype about heavy metal. Heavy metal listeners are angry, brutal, violent people. It sounds as if we're the cause of all chaos. :/

But look at the protesters in Bangkok! I'll bet with you most of them listen to pop/hip-hop. =D

i think it's more of a two way relationship. or rather, a many way relationship. so many things define our personality. likewise, so many things define our taste in music. holding views like this is just silly

yeah stereotypes are getting irritating.

i listen to classic rock and psychedelic music and ppl think i'm a pot smoking hippie.

i do agree to some extent ur musical tastes influences ur appearance. like long hair for example. in the 80s everyone had long permed big hair.

Oh, you watched the movie ray? I love Jamie Fox!

I believe more than ever, that music is an outlet for our inner beings, more than it being a personality test.

The results' unsurprising. There always was this link btw personality and musical taste, how one influences the other, only now it has the official 'chop' from academics.

And yes, stereotypes are bad (i'm guilty =X) I used to think its funny how whenever heavy metal bands are interviewed they always say we're peaceful and loving people and all...i guess the research shows it IS true!

Yup! Even did a character analysis of Ray. :)
