I wouldn't exactly say that I'm afraid to admit this but it just doesn't seem like the stuff I would hear compared to my "usual stuff" and people would normally exclaim "what? you listen to them?!". So yeah, here's my two-cents worth:
I think Dashboard Confessional is a really great band. Really tight rhythm section especially the drummer, Mike Marsh. I think he's one of the best of our time (listen to "Again I go unnoticed" on the Unplugged album!). And while many would diss the frontman Chris Carrabba as whiny, I beg to differ. I think he writes unbelivably deep, complex and beautiful romanticised lyrics that most of us wish we could. Also, as a believer of music as a force to unite and evoke emotion, I think he does it the former the best. He seems to have this unique gift to prompt his audience to sing along automatically in unison as if in a campfire.
Also love Frou Frou. When I listened to Details, I couldn't believe that it was the work of just two people. Imogen Heap had such a unique (though at some points digitally altered) voice and she and Guy Siegsworth were able to generate such a vivid soundscape. Really put me in a chill mood when I was mugging for my O levels back then.
Jason Mraz Is great too. Super catchy songs with pretty deep lyrics too. I went to his concert last year. Quite a character. What amazed me the most was just him and his percussionist Toca Rivera were able to produce such a full sound and harmonize flawlessly. Amazing stuff.
