Music lesson in school

During my secondary school days, we had mostly 'sing-alongs' and did some recorders.

Recently, visited a school with music lab filled with computer stations doing computer music. Things have really improved a lot.

What did you have for music lesson? Or wish to have?

I wish they had basic lessons for musical instruments of our choice, or rather the popular ones like guitar/bass/drums. At least some basic understanding, rather than sit in a room and play recorder like a bunch of sheep.

Used to learn the keyboard and recorder in primary school. There was no interest whatsoever to learn it, and we were like being forced to play it.:D

These thing are "in force" but it could be better in future. Maybe we start to have celebrities in secondary/jc/poly school in future, just like what happening now in Japan and Korea.

Also gov't maybe learn that playing music is one of the activities that involved interaction with left and right brian, and many time child is smarter this way. At the same it help release a chemical to relief stress. Many school are giving out "10 lesson to music expert" package tender to many private music school.

I think in general schools should do away with music lessons, but instead focus on music ccas. Making music as an academic subject ruins the fun of music.who's knows maybe playing the recorder is actually fun if it wasn't the school's idea to do so.

And not everyone approach music the same way, some have more natural ability than others, some like one music more than another. You cant do a 1 size fits all recorder lesson, or even a 1 size fits all rock music appreciation lesson. - all the more you shouldn't make it a part of the curriculum
