Music And Video Copyright Laws

Most of the creative work such as music and video are protected with copyright.
There are so many people around the world including Singapore doing cover of song/music video and published on video hosting site or even burn in CD as a birthday gift.

Is it illegal to do a music or music video cover? Can we get sued? ??

I believe you won't get sued if you state on the video that it is only for educational purposes and all rights go to its respective owners. You'll have to credit the record company and the artiste and also, you can't sell the covers. Putting up on youtube or for free download should be fine. Someone correct me if im wrong!
