music and teens

16/m

it depends on who u're actually asking...now got lots of different types of teens

but what i think are:

majority : RnB/punk rock/rock/atlternative (too bad not much local)

teens that goes clubbing: techno, RnB remixes eg. PCD, black eyed peas

teens that dress emo : emo of course,(MCR) but some listen to blink n greenday

teens that play music : mostly ranging from pop punk to rock to metal

don't mean to be rascist but kinda depends on the race too. if chinese then i think most likely pop punk to rock. you dun see many chinese teens screaming their lungs out. if malay then prob. metal n those like avenged sevenfold and stuff

this is just my thoughts...and wat's above is NOT MEANT TO BE RACIST.

^^ I call bull. I club but i don't listen to R&B nor techno (not much anyway). And most of the screamers I know of are Chinese.

16/M

I think most teens listen to chinese pop nowadays, cos the tube shows the ads of their albums. Singaporeans tend to be stereo-types once in awhile.

i thought teenagers now like fall out boy

and my chemical romance

every week i go orchard and see lots of "punks" in green day/a7x/MCR t shirts

by "punks" i mean wearing black + the usual stuff + that hair style. yes. really.

In my view,it varies to each individiual and the type of songs they listened to growing up.my first rock song was The Scorpions-Wind Of Change but eventually favoured goth and metal(death, heavy, black)

i used to think it was hip hop and r&b cause
that's kinda what they play on mtv day in day out.
then when i got into ns i figured it has to be chinese
pop music. jay chou seems to have his own religion...

but ever since baybeats i'm thinking indie is it...

but then i wouldn't know... i'm no teen
=

20 still consider teen? I'm just a year faster than those 19s what!

metal (heavy, death, core, whatever that's kb enough)
Blues and funk

I think majority listens to what's on mainstream radio.
and sadly what's there influences them.
because that's their source of music. right?

pop, alt, punk, emo (getting trendy now adays). RNB (always on 98.7)

with the recent rise of Paul twohil and Lucify
i think emo and jrock will surface soon enough

When will a Metalhead get on national competition and start the hype going around? =X

20 teen? twenteen?

anyways i'm 15 but i listen to 80s stuff like kajagoogoo, spandau ballet, level 42, other 80s bands. the more modern ones i like are pop-punk and indie.

im a teen

i think rap is the worse thing ever to happen to music... in fact, i dono y ppl regard it as music at all

techno i wont consider music because i dont think real instruments are used to play it? (dont be too harsh on me technomaniacs if i got it wrong)

emo is like some bunch of lost kids on guits who dono if they are punk or goth which = total loserness (sry for the earlier comment, wasnt very sensitive there)

i use to listen to pop like good charlotte at primary 4, but i stopped when i learnt what decent music is (but i nvr ever touched simple plan, even at that young age i coudnt stand the whining singer and 7yr old rebel lyrics)

haha im gonna get arrowed for this im sure, but my darkest secret is that i still do listen to some mcfly for their catchy licks and solos (giv em credit cuz they are like the oni pop with good solos for pop standard ), though their lyrics are a bit lame, i mean very lame

i do still listen to some pop punk like sum41 and green day (thats about all for punk) jus for their catchy tunes and beats haha

and i listen to mainly alternative rock like matchbox20 and 3doors down
and soft rock (lifehouse, nickelback, fuel) to hard rock (mr big, gnr, velvet revolver) and metal (helloween, metallica, iron maiden etc.) and prog like dream theater, LTE, angra which i jus discovered end of las yr

conclusion--- i've given up on radio cuz their song choices CMI already, i long for the day when rap, girly pop (lindsay&hilary&wadeva wananbe) and emo is sanitized out of the radio industry, and rock or at least some decent music will domintate radio once more. when will the evil reign of rap end?
i hope 50cent gets killed by some female rights club or sometin man

i jus hope the music of the future wont be techno, cuz to me techno is not music and if the "music" of the future is techno, means music will die in the future ZOMG ZOMG ZOMG!!!!

*sorry to all techno and rap and emo fans man... i dont think there a lot on this forum rite?? pls say there arent!!! but seriously...

18/Male here..

I listen to a lot of metal.. Some bands i've been listening to lately: Aeon, Decapitated, Atheist, Cynic, Psycroptic, Carcass, Keep of Kalessin, Despised Icon, Immortal, etc.. So get the drift of my taste in metal..

Also i listen to Blues and Jazz, SRV, George Benson, Clapton, BB King, John Mayer, Stan Getz.. yeah..

I rarely listen to much pop, when i want slow music i listen to some rock ballads or even Opeth's Damnation or Porcupine Tree's Dead Wing.. Maybe some Radiohead from time to time..

But i feel most teens nowadays listen to a lot of emocra... ahem.. emocore, punk, and shit metalcore(because i feel there are many great metalcore bands that are unrecognized over here..) And i feel some bands nowadays are popular because of how they dress or look..

thats just my 2 cents

i guess everyone's entitled to their own opinion.

and soft is 50% people's opinions and 50% flaming people's opinions.

and that's juz my opinion :D

good one chester... exactly my thoughts... i remember there was tis guy that was so defensive bout either rap or boybands or techno against the comment i made bout it

15/F

uh i think teenagers nowadays listen more to poppunk? you've got your fall out boy, panic!, amber pacific, augustana and the list goes on.

and dudes i think rap and rnb are completely out of fashion now. i mean there was a point when 98.7 used to play usher like practically 24/7 and almost everyone i knew switched off the radio and started turning to the internet for music. i think the only people that listen to rnb now actually are the hiphopdancers cos they need that kinda music.

the songs on shows like the OC, smallville and whathaveyou shows feature also go into teenagers ipods nowadays (:

oh and emo is just for poseurs.
i like rock- and whatever is associated with it. more a lyric person.

and so, if you really really wanna know whats the latest hit to go around, just take a look at the nicknames on any teenagers MSN list and you'll know (:

yeah just my 2 cents. (:
