multi-effects vs compact pedals

Hey guys, which do you think is better overall for a beginner guitarist like me? I know that there are some really good value multifx pedals like the zoom g2 but im not quite sure im prepared to do all those editing and all that tech stuff (im not really very good at tech stuff). Anyways i was wondering whether i should just get the single pedals (boss ds-1, ds-2) which cost like $100++ each or i could just get a multifx pedal which has almost all the effects i need. Im just going to use it for jamming and maybe some small performances. So any insight would be very much appreciated, thanks!

multi! if you're not very fussy for the sound. cheap , simple and easy to bring. : )

I would say. go multi 1st. get a feel of it. mess around.
soon ull know what you want your guitar to sound like and then try to
mess with it some more to get the sound you want. If you still cant, then go onto analogs.

i think what gibbytones said is right lah, start with a multi to get the feel. then move on later. the zoom has a harsh distortion for some reason, but if thats what you like get it!

I'd say multi for conviniece. But if you're a lazy and simple-minded bugger like me, you may not like multi effects because of having to set and remember presets and stuff like that. Also, I'd reccommend going for singles if you're not planning to use much effects.

Go the multi-efx route first, to acclimatise yourself to the world of effects. And do give it some time, explore, experiment and then once you know exactly what effects best suit your taste, music and usage, then go the stompbox route.

honestly. there isnt any better route and no way will i agree that stomp boxes are the upgrade of a multi effects.

i would say for a start use both. it will naturally teach u the capabilities of both worlds. then u'll understand WHY digital, WHY use analog, n WHY use both. as times goes by, u'll know WHAT to use, HOW to tweak to get to that sound playing in your head. i guarantee u that u'll b more creative than an average joe.

remember its not just abt the tone. tone is very very very subjective. dont learn how to get a perfect tone for a start. it will confuse u. whatever sounds nice to u is what u should achieve

imo if u start wif analog u'll tend to stick with it and u wont open your door and see wat digital can do for you...vice versa
