Ok, i think some of softies are movie fanatic or just casual movie goer...So just wanna noe what type of movie that u prefer to watch...

Im more to true life story like Coach Carter and Gridiron Gang, and also Gore Gore Gore Bloody movie like Saw....

So what type of movie you guys into?

anything that doesnt have contents for children.Other than that has got to have a good story-line.

El topo!

The current bunch of gore flicks are a little too mean spirited. Older ones are classic. New York Ripper, cannibal holocaust, even the peter jackson one, dead alive.

lately it's japanese flicks like linda!linda!linda! which is actually quite good.

pretentious indie artfag movies. not for the faint of heart. i only keep criterion dvds, and I watch the cremaster series every night before going to bed.

edit: ac - linda linda linda is awesome, although the director's newer movies kinda lack whatever linda linda linda had. maybe it was bae-du na. sigh.. anyways for good japanese movies, try watching Nobody Knows by Koreeda Hirokazu and the films of Shunji Iwai.

In that case you should add the holy mountain to that list. Heehhehe

and most of the time, i head down to the movies like 3 times a week.
god im addicted.

wahlan. i dont even have student discounts.

I hated all about lily chou, which is about the only one i've seen of shunji iwai. His kawanx2's movie love & pop is a lot more interesting though.

yeah, it's a love-hate affair with some people I guess. He's really one of the best modern asian/Japanese directors though. Try watching Swallowtail Butterfly, people seems to dig it more. I also love his shorts. April Story is so poetic..

edit: also if you like love and pop then you will fall in love with hana & alice!

what do you mean by one kind type movies, bro?

hahaha Ricky is a classic. Sex and fury is awesome, I love 70's japanese exploitation. the pinku material these days have no art to them.

Anyway a few recommendations, are Lady Snowblood part 1 and 2, which Kill Bill is based off, and Female Prisoner Scorpion series featuring Meiko Kaji.

deh, looks like you also into one kind type movies :D

damn i had my chance at the female prisoner scorpion box set but stopped short of getting it. How many chicks with sharp objects can one take right?

hehe anyway, might as well just list titles as an intro to others ....

i like docu's as well.......

king of kong - smalltown dude takes on megalomaniac ahole in the quest to be the number one donkey kong champ. An exercise in how being a main member of a ruling party is advantageous for underhand kung foolery.

zoo - smalltown dudes decide to have a horse. One dies, everyone flies.

Century of the self - yeah adam curtis decides to give you the red pill

dark days - living in a tunnel with hobos never seemed so exciting and normal as this.

jesus camp - the legacy of how a religion distances itself from the message and brainwashes kids.

manufacturing dissent - michael moore sucks in this one.

the devil and daniel johnston - It's always better to be crazy when you're younger.

other stuff recommended
on the nihongo trip

the glorious life of sachiko hanai - girl gets hole in head. earth blows up.
survive style 5+ - glorious technicolor non sequitur asano, vinnie jones and others in a tale that ultimately ends in a flying shot.
All the gamera movies - smalltown flying turtle does a shuriken on other hapless monsters
tetsuo - the reason why it's not wise to have a drill bit as a schlong.

some ingerrish
Brown bunny - A long silent movie culminating in a blow.
this is spinal tap - dudes with long hair and guitars. excellent!
The life aquatic with steve zissou- it's bright, it's underwater and has bill murray.
altered states - man to chimp to bright light.
solaris & solyaris - the entire planet is HAL. Both the remake and the original are great.
bubba ho tep - bruce campbell, he who inspired doom, not dhoom, is a geriatric elvis fighting the evil undead.

Inspirational shows such as gridiron gang is always cool.

But the real deal is at comedies. Like actual funny ones, not like epic movies and shit. eg: Kung Fu Hustle ( only chinese show I liked ).. can't think of anymore.
Shows with like Adam Sandler, Jim Carey. :)

I love Meiko Kaji, so a Female Prisoner Scorpion boxset is really the greatest thing ever. Sadly, I can't afford it :(
The glorious life of sachiko hanai is really some trippy shit. 'Eat the Schoolgirl' is another gross pinku horror movie worth watching. Also Dark Days is really great since the music of DJ Shadow complements the film perfectly.

I love documentaries too, but no the Michael Moore kind. His films really pisses me off sometimes, with all the biasness and the self-righteousness of a left-wing asshole.

You've mentioned some great stuff, so just to add on...

the Qatsi trilogy - simply beautiful and moving
Orson Welles' F for Fake
Man Bites Dog - one of the best mockumentaries
An Inconvenient Truth - Al Gore is crazy and scary
The Bridge - a nice documentary on suicide
Air Guitar Nation - annual worldwide competition on air guitar, awesome stuff

Audition by takashi miike - his personal best. it's best not to know anything about this movie before watching it.

Last Life in the Universe - the holy trinity of pen-ek ratanaruang, asano tadanobu and takashi miike in a largely wordless movie

Chungking Express - a Wong Kar-Wai film is an unforgettable experience

Purple Butterfly by Ye Lou - a moody sino-chinese film about conspiracies, revolution set in the 1940s. something to watch late at night

also Wes Anderson films are pure indie bliss, however his latest, The Darjeeling Limited seems a little disorienting, and a bit too quirky for its own good, in my opinion.

also, if you have the chance watch this short film called 'Madame Tutli Putli'. It's an amazing stop motion film with some of the creepiest eyes ever.
you can find the whole film on youtube, but here's the trailer: YouTube - Madame Tutli Putli (Trailer)

absolute nonsenses like american pie, white chicks, scary movie, freddy got fingered
I liked watching saw too.
I hardly go to the cinema tho. I only went there like twice in 2007 to watch The simpsons and Harry potter. Dvds ftw!:)

good to hear some1 love Saw ..... but i dunno maybe is just me, when i watch all the saw movie, i eat like nobody business when they were showing the Gore scene....ehehe....funny movie is ok, like u noe those parody movie, but sometime is too lame to be call funny....

i have the entire qaatsi trilogy on DVD. Sometimes HMV has a sale and it's available really cheap. Did you know philip glass performed them here in singapore a while back? They had it projected and his small ensemble was doing the soundtrack. i've also been meaning to catch Barakas as well. It's a more ethnic version of godfrey reggio's films.

That tutli putli is great! The character is a little Blythe like. Just caught it on the net. Hooray internet! reminds me of jan svankmajer's Alice ( avail at esplanade library heheh)

For nonsense films - scary movie 1-4 - They're grrreat!
robin hood men in tights - dude with mole parades as tightly clad rebel. OT: Actor loses mole and career tanks. Black dudes doing hip hop when it was less bullshit
super trooper - police squad nearly gets disbanded, saved in the end by some rubber dolls
club dread - it's "i still know what you did last summer" but with jokes.
beerfest - uber beer games for the uber beer recipe. The trick to das boot .... schpin it where you mean it...

the guys who did that last 3 are classic! Don't rent them cos they're usually cut.

Shaun of the Dead - Everyone turns into a zombie, these british blokes gots to leg it to the pub where someone's mum gets it in the face.
Hot fuzz - the same team! A top cop gets sent to the countryside, because the boss doesn't want him to take over his job, finds a major conspiracy like population 436, and goes apeshit in town.

If anyone can ever get to see it, they should catch the british series Spaced featuring those 2 blokes. You won't regret it.

yeah, simon pegg's films are dope, but I hate David Schwimmer in some of his movies, like Big Nothing. It's just personal I guess, the guy can't act to save his face.
Reno 911 Miami is a great cop parody movie.

The eyes from Madame Tutli-Putli are actual real human eyes. It was painstakingly brought over to the animation, which took about 6 or 7 years to make, I think. Also some other animations are Richard Linklater's Waking Life and his adaptation of A Scanner Darkly which was pretty good.

damn that sounded awesome to watch, too bad I missed it. where was it screened/performed?

Oh yeah, movies like Kill Bill, pulp fiction, sin city :D

Anyone seen Crossroads, not the crappy britney spears one, but the one about blues. I've been looking around, can't seem to find it.
