hi..anyone know where to get mother of pearl inlays locally? i'm looking to do DIY on an old guitar, but the inlays there are really screwed up.

worst come to worst, any luthiers doing inlay work? if so..how much do they charge? thanks bros... =)

hey you can check this store at peninsular 3rd floor..the corner end..they sell the whole fretboard with the inlay already in it..why not u chaeck it out..last time i saw it costed 80 buck sumthing like that for the vine inlay pattern..

I was at peninsula checking out custom inlays.

Here's exactly what he told me.

"Nobody does custom inlays. It's a very delicate, time consuming and drawn out job. Plus, it's impossibly expensive"

Prae's right about the delicate operation. Say if you got an entire fingerboardboard replacement, the measurements got to be right, plus, you'd have to pry out your own fingerboard, potentially disastrous if done without the proper tools and experience.

haha why not u paint the fret board instead..i have friends who try making the sharktooth inlay effect by painting on their maple glossy fretboards..then they add clear nail polist on it..looks good but nothing like how pearls look like..

ever wondered if the paint will somehow affect the neck? Not to mention the chemicals in the nail polish.

and why settle for anything other than the best? :)

Or you could be cheap and paste some round sticker on the fretboard....I might be doing that when I get my lack of inlay epiphone goth v.

Ur kidding!!! How much would it cost for pearloid roman numeral inlays on the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 12th, 15th, 17th, 19th, 21st and 24th?

btw, bodomchild, stick to no fretmarkers man... the goth simply wont look good with inlays.

Ball park figure, S$1,500. I'm not kidding. Inlaying a neck requires removing all the frets, cutting the inlays, routing the inlay cavities on the fingerboard, sanding the board and fretting the neck. I can do it, the quesiton is do you REALLY want it done :D

1.5k craptastic.

I hope that the 1.5k is gonna be worth it man.

sheeeeeeeet. I'll only be able to afford it... after NS in the least. Yikes.

I'm not usually keen to improve the aesthetics of an instrument but ball park figure is S$300 including inlay materials. What kinda guitar do you have and I only do face dots.
