more organisers organizing "pay to play" gigs

anyone up for looking a free space to host your event/gig?
i have one lobang but thing is you have to bring down your equipments like
amplifier, mics etc and set it up yourself there.

they're just providing you the space absolutely free.
anyone keen?

ziincx , whatever you mean by Whatlah sucks? Im not sure if its a prank or what. But your acting childish here. Do you even know us that well to comment us like that? What makes you think that we sucked? Cause you felt that we are money suckers too? hmm..

Im annoyed by your actions on the phone.

What i've noticed these days that alot of gig organisers organising "pay to play"
gigs. I somehow disagree on this concept. I do respect that they are trying
to organise gigs and letting new/old bands a chance to expose themselves or expose more....

Organise a free one and then talk bro . I'll be there to lend you my support !

honestly, i don't see what's the problem.
these tickets usually cost less than $15 and that is (correct me if i'm wrong) quite a small sum to most of us these days.

if the bands are willing to sell the tickets to gain exposure, i don't see what's the problem.
and like you said, those people who buy these tickets are usually friends and family members. they probably want to show their support you know.

if you think that paying to see "noob" (<--- notice the quotation marks) bands perform is a waste of money, then don't go.

the band gets exposure
PLUS
the friends show how supportive they are

the way i see it, it's a win-win situation

hi ziinc, im reallly sorry for the misunderstand. Apollogies. :) Must be my friends who's pranking me much.

Sorry again bro! :)

It's simple. It's difficult to host a gig in Singapore. C'mon. This is Singapore. :/

If you want to get paid performing instead, I'll advise you to play your instrument better and then get a job in a pub.

If you want to perform, then just perform! Get the tickets, sell them, whatever.

If you want to perform and be big, get real. In your wildest dreams. It's much more than that.

I consider $15 expensive.

Furthermore, you have to understand that bands cannot rely on just friends and family all the time. They are probably okay with coming down for your first or second or even third performance. If you often perform regularly though, you're probably doing the same thing over and over again. And that is where ticket sales are gonna be tough.

This, however, can be countered if the band is GOOD and have a good marketing strategy, and that every single time they perform they gain new fans, who is willing to come watch them perform for the next one. So this is where, as a band, it becomes YOUR job to get new audience to ensure that ticket sales are easy.

If after a while, you find ticket sales rather difficult, and you are performing to the same people in the crowd, you ought to look into how the band can improve. Otherwise, wait for a free gig... and be prepared to wait long.

I see that , 15 bucks is way too cheap for me.... haha chey!

But depends on the quality of the band ah. Each penny counts for talent!

totally agreed. $15 can get you a pack of Marlboro AND a can of Carlsberg!

okay so $15 can be quite a huge sum to some.

but well, $15 is probably somewhat the highest it will go. some of them can cost as low as $5. that's cheaper than an upsized macdonald meal. i think it is worth giving up a meal at macs to support your friends.

and like they said, it depends on the organizers to determine the ticket prices.

over time, you will improve and your contacts/lobangs will increase. Once you have established a fanbase and a certain standard, you will be able to play for a bigger scale gig and you might even get paid to play.

i feel that pay-to-play gigs are good for bands that are starting out and need exposure.

however, please do use your discretion before signing up for a gig.
if you don't think you're able to sell __(insert amount) tix before the gig, i suggest you don't sign up for it, unless you're willing to fork out the amount yourself.

[bigblackbear] totally agreed that p2p gigs are great for starting out bands.

i feel that it's a great opportunity for them especially most of them are still in their secondary / post-secondary schools.

you can expand your fanbase early by just simply roping your classmates to check you guys out over jamming sessions. once you've garnered their support, then it's time to venture out and go for gigs like this (since it's aplenty).

that way you know you are able to sell those tickets off without the worry of getting lots of complications between organizer and bands (for underselling tickets)
