Monitors for Keyboards

Did a search of the monitors in the forum, and I ended up wondering - all the monitors that have been discussed - would it matter if they connected to ANY instrument?

I'm enquiring namely for connecting to the keyboard. Am toying with the idea of buying an RD700SX, but read some reviews that even those experienced with sounds haven't managed to successfully connect the RD to get good sounds, or even sounds as good as those they get from headphones.

I don't like the idea of playing with headphones forever....I'd like to FEEL the vibrations sometimes (especially when my playing gets better)

Is setting up monitors and speakers really as difficult as it seems to be? Would a budget of about 500-600 be good enough to get me reasonably good sounds for home use, for my own listening pleasure?

any good computer speaker will do. creative, logitech altec lancing. just plug it in directly to the RD's headphone jack using a converter.

and the sounds are fantastic, reproduced exactly the way it was played

sunshinesarah, using Studio Monitor to playback your keyboard is alittle over kill and might sometime not sound as nice as you wish it to be. this is because monitor speakers are meant for critical listening and usually a flat frequency cruve. but normal people (non-mixing engineer) have audio preference. some like more bass, some like more treble.

if you have a hi-fi system at home that cost about $400, I suggest you try it out with it first.

oh cool. if you're telling me my hi-fi set's enough I'm perfectly alright with that. Just that i get the impression that that may not bring out the full potential of the keyboard, and that would be a waste. but since I'll only hook it up to the speakers when I sound good enough to my own ears via headphones, haha....then yeah, I guess it shld be enough.

thanks!

There are cheap monitors out there - a compromise between studio monitors and those you use for keyboards. M-audio, ESI etc has some.

and all I'll need are the monitors / speakers - I won't need any soundcards or amps stuff to drive them in anyway? they can connect directly to the keyboard?

No. Amps only needed for passive speakers. Active speakers only need to be plugged in.

I got a pair of ESI Near05 for quite cheap. Not that great, but sufficient for keyboards.
