Modding pedals

Hey pretty noob at pedal stuff here so I just want to know what is modded pedal means? What is changed, does it sound better? How to do it? bascially just a little bit of info. thanks

Like a car, a ah beng family man can get a Honda Jazz and make it more outstanding, maybe more rev friendly or more power, or more attention grabbing. He go shop and mod, add stickers and a big spoiler.

A rich man with a BMW 335i could want his ride to look more fly, more unique, more like a BMW M3 but without having to pay so much and worry about insurance, taxes, crashing it, or even finding one. He go add some bodykit, unique headlamps, big flippin' rims, maybe a more expressive exhaust. He go shop and mod.

A successful man has a Bentley Continental GT. He just wants the leather interior to be reupholstered. Something to do with his gout problem. He ship the car back to England to put in new seats and tune up since its there.

What they have in common? They make something more personal, maybe better, maybe worst, maybe changing the characteristic of how the vehicle was as it left the factory.

Equate that to a pedal.
You could rehouse, change pots, change chip, put some decals on, change the knobs because it fell off and you lost it, add true-bypass, add power socket, take out power socket, change LED, add LED....

The world is your oyster.

interesting explanation you got that
Well yes its mostly due to your personal liking of the tone of the distortion pedal,if you like the stock version of it no wrong in using it.
yes people like to modd stuff to make them of course better in their own ways.Modded pedals are the same it makes them sounds better, gives them more crunch to it if u ask me.

1) Modification of pedals doesnt just limit to gain pedal(overdrive, distortion or fuzz), mods are available for modulation effect as well.

2) There are much more effect out there other then gain pedals. Unfortunately, gain pedals are the more popular ones coz almost anyone in here started on guitar wanting to rock out and get all the gain they wanna

3) Modding is not a must, expecially if you have no idea of what you want or know much about the dfference it made.

4) Wanting to get modded pedals from reading too much what others said from online forum doesnt make your sound stand out/improve if you are just using a crappy amp and no understanding of gear combination and the skill to coax the potential from the effect

5) Modding effect is a time consuming plus trial and error process. For a start, start using google.com to search for effect diy forums, read up on the basic of electronic. understanding schematic etc. Lots of info, mods have been lay down by many people from almost 15 years back till now and its all on the internet, waiting for us to find it...

beavisaudio.com

Its the information age. Or you could go find Goosonique or Seekz and bug them to show you their guarded secrets.

LIke who? I heard soundalchemy offers service. Anyone tried before?

i drop by there pretty often. i go to him for modding and building of pedals. very reasonable rates and a great guy to do business with.

seekz knows his stuff. drop by his place and he'll explain to u everything.

hahaht thanks. Yea i kinda know what i want. mod my vox wah.

http://www.pedaldoc.com/html/english_pedals_pages/wahs/Copy of vox_847_with_led.htm

pretty cool stuff.

from the mod kit i saw in your reference site, the mod will do a true bypass switching with led indicator, the resistors will give you higher peak frequency, more bass & gain, also a bit wider sweep range (the capacitor)

you will find 2 transistor at your 847 wah, there you can also replace the transistor to BC109 to get even more gain, sweetness & more vintage tone
try that, you'll love it :)

oh thanks. now i just need to learn some electronics.:p soldering and stuff.

sure, if you want to DIY-ing then pedal modding is the best start

but if you only want to have a better sounding pedal, then just ask a friend who knows about soldering (or a professional :)) to get the job done
