Mid Boost on guitar etc

Hey its me again :D
yeah i was wondering if i should simply get an EQ pedals or have Mid/treble Boost install in my guitar. My guitar is blacktop tele so i probably need to do a lot of routing etc. Could someone tell me approximately how much it would cost ?
And oh i don't want to rely too much of my pedal that's why i'm considering on those boost :D

Next is ermmm about my pickups.
My friend told me that having them split will make my tone cleaner ? like those single coils ? But i'm getting a bareknucle nailbomb pickup and im wondering if i should split them. Comment please. Thanks alot :D

dunno about the routing. but splitting doesn't make the tone clearer. totally different tonality imo. singles and humbuckers sound totally different neither clean nor dirty. my splitting made my tone super twangy if thats what you meant by clean.

yeah. Im more toward the humbucker cause its fat and warmth.
maybe i might just have to forgot about splitting.
then how about the mid boost. is there actually a need to install it if im getting an eq pedal ?

thanks anw :D

In a way it does make it "cleaner" cos theres lower output if you split the coils. One thing about the mid boost, passive circuits cant boost frequencies so that means you're gona need to route a battery compartment for an active mid boost or tone circuit. I think pedals would be cheaper and easier to operate.

alright thanks.
i saw from somewhere that no matter how good the active boost is they will still be inferior to a real eq pedal. Thanks alot.
If i were to split the coils,i could still get back my "unsplit" tone just by switching it back right ? i mean if i were to change to a 5 way switch.

Yes, splitting will be put on a switch or push-pull pot. It's worth it to get a coil split on teles with humbuckets as it opens up a few more tonal options. Putting it on a push-pull pot (of your volume knob) and keeping your 3-way switch is better IMO. I used to have a crazy 5-way switch wiring on my tele (out-of-phase, parallel/series etc) but it's harder to switch correctly live. I dunno how strat players do it :)

Yeah sure you can switch back. The 5-way can be hard to switch around if you need the middle positions a lot but if you mostly use the first and last positions then it should be fine. I'm a strat player and I don't know how strat players do it haha.

Imagine the rotatory switch on prs-es... *faints*

Any mods to your guitar will most probably cost you a lot more than say a simple mxr 6-band eq.

Here are somethings you might want you read up:

basic coil split wiring: http://www.blueguitar.org/new/articles/blue_gtr/gtr/coil_cut.pdf

Thanks soooo much for the feedback thread! real kind of you :D
i decided to split my nailbomb to give me more range for tone :D
i dont really get the basic coil split though. think will need to find some service for it :D

does this meant that if i were to use a push pull pot i would need to give up either my volume knob or tone knob ?

Ah no dude.. a push pull pot would perform 2 functions on one pot. ie the rotatory controls one parameter (say ur vol), the push pull another (say coil split). this is a nice explanation of sorts.. a little long though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMGzQxf8Xks

The coil split reading takes a few read overs before you can understand it, but i put it up so you can read up and be in the know for what your about to spend your money on.

try the emg SPC boost gain - it comes in the form of a pot ...you could use it as a tone pot if you dont use your tone pot much ..

OH dude thanks a lot again! i get it like finally :P
but do you know where i got have them install ? :D

i gave up on five way switching. never get the right one. so switched to a three way with a push pull. adds in an extra option for me in the end without the hassle of thinking shit is it all the way neck or between the third or the first
