What is Mics with a Purpose?

Mics with a Purpose (MicSWAP) is an online blog that connects its readers to a network of audio-recorded materials (mainly music and poetry recitals) which addresses themes and topics concerning SOCIAL ISSUES. The purpose of MicSWAP is to bring all these audio expressions together under a visible flagship and resonate these recordings as if they are one single waveform, vocalising the minds, heart, soul and fists of millions.

This is not about rebellion or defiance. It is not about making a stand against any establishment of power. It is not meant to be politically angled even.

It is about milking our rights to express our thoughts on issues that concerns us in our society.

It may not be possible to change the world with this. But if a thought can shift mindsets by a degree, someone will gain a new perception with every 180 submissions.

Topics we address:

war
gender issues
censorship
abuse
crimes against women and children
poverty and starvation
terminal diseases such as AIDS, Cancer etc
social justice
and many more...

This is a personal invitation to anyone and everyone in this forum to participate in this project. It might not be much to look at now, but hopefully, as more and more submissions are being sent in, we will see this project grow.

For more information on MicSWAP, please visit our blog at www.thoa-in-session.com/micswap or our myspace account at www.myspace.com/purposefulmics

We have looked and are continuing to look for songs to be featured in our blog.

First featured track for MicSWAP: "Is This How She's Dying?" by X'Statics

Currently, there is one specific theme that we are sorely looking for:

DARFUR

If you or your band have a recording of a song about Darfur, please contact us.

For more info about Darfur, visit: http://www.savedarfur.org/

We also welcome submissions on other social/humanitarian/global issues as well.

Heh...

Still looking for submissions. It doesn't even have to be your band, and it doesn't even have to be local. In fact, I want to have equal balance in both local and international, so that it works in such a way that Singapore has the opportunity to showcase its talents internationally and vice versa via this platform for social awareness.

So keep em coming :D
