microphone lookout

hey guys i am searching for a good condensor microphone that could record vocals well . preferbably a warm and rich sound.

However is there anything that i should look up for when buying a microphone? other than weather its condensor dynamics etc.

and what do you guys think about this

i will be getting the Dolly Standard from Violet line.

what do you guys think of this microphone also judging from its specs, as its a foregin product would i encounter any problems using it in singapore ?

zenguan88, what makes you wanna get this mic? have you heard it before?




a common studio vocal mic would be AKG 414 or Neumann U87. These mic cost from $1500 to $3000 depending on version.

if i were to operate a recording studio, i would get a AKG or Neumann to start with.

funny thing is, sound engineers like to collect mics. also, different mics have different response to different voice. so, that's where the mix 'n' match come in. that's when you want to build up your mic collection.

Why dont you try PM "mixcubed" as Myself & James bought some nice ADK mics from him. He might have some stocks...

The Vienna & Hamburg are really nice...

yup, you would never go wrong with u87 and 414. something sm58 does the tricks too for vocals. i would like to know more about the mics. if anyone have the sample of the recording of that microphones with the model of the pres stated. post it somewhere so we can listen to it.

usually you can tell by $$ ... so i would say set a budget and nail the best in that price range ...

hmms i never hear the dolly before but i read reviews in sound magizines that recommand the microphone. i thought it might be a good buy however theres no dealer in singapore and its risky if anything goes wrong.

neumann seems pretty expensive. ha theres the high high high end luh maybe AKG might be good i will try to look out for that thanks guys.

there's big discussion in 2006 about split up between blue and the maker of their microphone. they manufacture start their own line violet-design and JZ microphone both are comes from the same factory. both has good review on some big recording forum like www.gearslutz.com.
