MI Audio advice

Hey guys,

Need some advice on MI Audio Crunch Box.

Went to guitar77 today, heard the crunchbox, it sounds so sweet!

I'm quite tempted to buy it, but i'm not sure if the sound was enhanced by the tube amps they're using there, cuz i'm just using a 15w practice amp most of the time... and yeah i'm using a Keeley Seeing Eye mod DS1.

Anyone can give some advice and the comparison between the Keeley Seeing Eye DS1 and the MI Audio Crunch Box?

you need to understand the amp plays the most important part on how you will sound. good amp can make a bad pedal sound decent. good pedal will not make a bad amp sound good.

but having said that the crunch box is a pretty good distortion pedal. personally i prefer it over the keeley ds1

well that said personally i didnt think the randall was that good. an acceptable level amp which shines more with a strat. with humbucker guitars having tried a pot with bareknuckles thru it i thought it sounded bad.

but ive to say the MI Audio crunch box is a good pedal if u like brit influenced sounds like marshalls and laneys. but still lacking in gain IMO. well having said that our advice to u is not worth as much as the story ur ears tell u. trust your ears, if u like it den its for u :)

The tubezone sounds like a better choice to me. More tweakable. More knobs will rule the world.

Actually, if you have a keeley DS1, whats "wrong" with it?

And does the Keeley DS1 have enough gain for you?

i bought a crunchbox recently. have never tried it on any other amps except my small 15 w vox pathfinder. i am very pleased with tone, and probably will sound even more amazing on a better amp. i currently leave a short slapback delay on most of the time to give the sound more life (cause my amp is lousy), and the effects never fail me make me happy everytime i play :D :D

but do remember that the crunchbox is a one trick pony. 3 knobs, not much tonal options, how ever you dial, it has the same sound. (i am not complaining cause it does it very well)

depending of the stuff you play, and your budget then. the tubezone is more expensive, but much much more tweakablity. ( people over that TGP forums are comparing whether the tubezone can also do what the crunchbox can do. some say yes some say no)

crunchbox has a lot of mids, cant turn it down. so some might not like it.

the best is to just try them all and follow your ears :D :D

Hey losaris,
u mean the stocks for MI Audio are in? Did u see the blues Boy deluxe?
I got to agree with mella. Not much tonal options but for waht i bought it for, high gain rythms stuff, its awesome! A Marshall in a box. I play i at home with my Kustom 12A, it was awesome. I played it in church with the Marshall AVT 150, still awesome! haha. :D

eh, I didn't really notice if the Blues Boy Deluxe was there... sorry!

oh, I feel that the Keeley DS1 doesn't have enough gain, and the top end sounds thin..

Oh so u guys are recommending Tube Zone? Hmmm... will check it out when i go down again soon...

I've owned the Crunch box, it's an awesome pedal, but sometimes it tends to get lost in the mix when jamming with a band. I'm not sure whether the new version solves this issue but so far it seems like a killer pedal to own. I got introduced to this pedal by Nanoshred, I seriously could not believe my ears, such huge tone from a small little red pedal.

I've since then acquired the Tubezone, to me it's a different beast from the Crunch box. You may not be able to get Crunch box voicings from the tubezone, the latter is more mesa boogie voiced. The mid, bright, tone, character, and the internal presence knob make this pedal extremely versatile. But it takes quite some time to dial in a good useable tone.

GET IT!

The Keeley DS1, I believe, is best used as a booster on a fulltube amp with headroom.

For what you own you'd probably be better off with another pedal or another amp.

hey losaris. u mentioned that u have the keeley seeing eye Ds1 at the moment. y dun u bring it down to guitar 77 the next time u go down to try. then it would kinda even the odds when u use it thru the same amp to test the crunch box. also that way u can a/b it effectively and see which one u prefer. also do test out the other pedals to have a wider choice range.
