so many ppl choose the mesa recto. IMO, the mesa recto SUCKS for metal, especially when it comes to tight chugging riffs. The recto tone is too spongy sounding with a very loose bass and fizzy, sloppy distortion. I wouldnt use it for teh fast chugging metul, sounds like a big mess. Rectifiers are just...overrated imo...lulz. Running an OD in front sure does tighten it up a lil, but still quite messy souding to my standard lolo.

I prefer an amp with a more focused, tighter bottom end and a non fizzy distortion something along the lines of Mark IV, 5150 or Powerball.

None on that list..

Based of experience and NOT by simply listening to soundclips, either an ENGL SE or Bogner Uberschall.

When you play the older 2channel Recto and still get that kind of tone,it will says
"you suck your not man enough to touch me"

For tight fast chugging riffs the 5150,mark4,jcm800 will do the job
Or use 10 Metal Zone=teh Brewtulz

hey mang i didnt include teh boutique high gain amps mang so stick to the list. In this world there are rules to follow and we as good citizens have to abide by them. And in this thread i created those list of amplifiers, and as stated i said MAINSTEAM metul amps. and so joli well choose from thatt darn list.

oohsah i am angry tis ok oohsah lolo sorry omgwtfbbq D: milo pls

If you don't mind 2nd hand stuff, Mesa's DC-5 or 10 is a good option to consider. If you can find it on EBay. It has Mark IV-ish gain on the Lead channel and pretty decent cleans, and its also capable of doing Recto-ish gains(although I don't know how to get that). Rather versatile amp, but excels more in the high-gain region. I personally love mine, now the only thing left to get is a decent cab..

i guess from the list i went with the Engl Powerball, but if i could pick any high gain amp it'd be the VHT PITBULL 50. playing response is super tight, high gain, high clarity. if you make a mistake while playing, it will spank you.

i'd also consider the following:
- Engle SE
- Bogner Uberschall
- Soldano SLO100 (haven't tried an Avenger)

Has anyone tried Diezel amps?

Powerball, Fireball and SE are tight, tonally good amps. But it has this weird mid range that irks me. The louder you turn the amp up, the more the midrange is lost ohnoes well thats what i heard anyway. In turn that makes the amp very 2d sounding lolz if that make sense. i love lamp

in the states, college buddy had an SLO100, one of the mom and pop music stores nearby brought in an uberschall. i was also lucky enough to try a Dr Z Carmen Ghia at a Musician's Friend, but that's not for the high gain amp thread ;)
