Metal distortion pedal

In extremely simplified term,a buffer meant to maintain signal integrity over long cables( capacitance issue), impedance mismatch between pedals etc.

But since we dont live in ideal world, certain buffer which we see in geetar pedals, even though can maintain signal integrity, it might also affect the tonal quality of the sound heard to some(brighter sounding, thinner sounding etc)

If you wanna know more, try searching online for guitar effect buffer issues, impedance mismatch, loading down effect etc. Theres many discussions, notes written for it dealing with buffer and true bypass issues.

heh, its can be pretty much a technically dry subject though(wihtout taking into consideration of the combo of guitar/effect/cables etc).

oh well, imho, its more fun to go back talking bout metal pedal instead, at least can have fun out of the brutality everything metal \m/ !

how about battery operated pedals with output to mixer are there any really very good ones?

IMHO, is there really the best distortion pedal? Every band has it's own sound. It's just depends on how you like the sound that comes from it, thru the pedal and the amp. I'm just saying.

The best heavy metal distortion pedal for its price range is the Beta Aivin HM-200. :p

Personally, I agree with Subversion that amp distortion sounds better, which is why I'm using amp simulators instead of distortion pedals. They sound more digital, but it has the powerful 'amp' sound. At least, mine does. Or it's my E.Q.. Anyway not all of us can afford a full-blown high-gain tube amp...

Also agree with Deidara_of_RoA. It's all subjective. The best distortion pedal for you is one that you've tried out of several and decided that you like the most. Your favourite might differ from other people's favourites. Which is why there is such a wide variety of 'best distortion pedal' suggestions. :)

yap. That's why I say in your opinion which is the best.

Yes I do agree with that, but well this is a thread about best distortion pedal, not best distortion

i know. i'm reiterating the fact that whatever's best in the pedal format, the one manifested by the amp would have you re-think what's 'best'.

the AMT SS-20 sounds cool online, but I haven't try it. anyone tried it b4? care to review?

If u're not so particular about "battery operated" IN MY OPINION the Line 6 POD X3 LIVE is the best distortion pedal ever ever ever. ego aside and from an objective point of view, I haven't heard any distortion pedal sounding better than my carefully tweaked tones that emulates Marshall JCMs and Mesa's mk IIc+ / dual rectifier and bogner's stuff.. and peavey 5150, and.. and.. and.. fill in the blanks with ur preferred melt ur face tube amp tone. best of all, i have them in stereo, one on the left FOH and a totally different one on the right FOH

Just reinforcing the point made my subversion. I don't even use the "distortion pedal" modellers in my POD because the distortion from the amp modellers are already killers
