Meshuggah, which album to buy?

If you're more into fast tempo thrashy stuff then 'destroy erase improve'.. if u like slower heavier stuff then 'nothing'.

Yeah, I think Destroy, Erase, Improve is a very good album to start with. To me, that album is like their Master Of Puppets. Or you can check out their None E.P. which is now released together with their first album, Contradictions Collapse on one CD.

I got with Destroy Erase Improve as well. An album that is well ahead of it's time and excellent production.

Interestingly enough Meshuggah themselves doesn't really have high regards for DEI. They claim that most of the riffs on that album were from old stuff that they dug up and to them, the album that really was groundbreaking was the album after that, Chaosphere, which heralded a new minimalist and repetetive style that became apparent in Nothing.

Check it out. I found an old pic of the early Meshuggah line up:

get chaosphere man

but if you like their older stuff where they experimented with a lot of jazz metal shit, get destroy erase improve or contradictions collapse, my personal fav albums are chaosphere and DEI, Nothing was when they started to go insane, playing non human playable stuff, and dont get me started on catch 33 heh
