Meshuggah cover attempt on my 8-string Guitar!!

NICE GUITAR!

I was thinking of purchasing an RG 2228 but then a Schecter Hellraiser C-8 cropped up on the 'bay for some 500 bucks LESS than the 2228.

Share some info on your setup!

What string guages are you using? Stock? Is the .68 (correct? the Low F#) too flubby?

i did the 18volts mod on the pickups. i'm using d'addario strings for 1st to 7th string. guage .10 to .59 and the low f string i'm using a gibson bass string .70 guage for the low f string. i've tuned my guitar 1/2 step down coz that's how meshuggah tuned their guitars.

anyway, i'm nt a big fan of shecter guitar coz i personally dun like the feel of their necks. rg 2228 is absolutely a great guitar to me coz i dun have much problems switching from a 7-string guitar to an 8-string guitar. the guitar feels great! only thing i dun like abt this guitar is the emg pickups but i can live with dat. hopefully i can save enough money to buy a Lundgren M8 pickups. heheh..

18v mod... people say the feel is more open, less compressed, and more clarity - how do you like that for lead playing?

Hmmm... a bass string. I'm actually going to order custom size guitar strings from juststrings.com

The Schecter C-8 JUST came in. About the neck... gloss finish. Ugh. Gotta live with it. But the neck is slight (1.5 mm?) thicker than the ibanez neck I played, if memory serves me well, and maybe more comfy for bending.

I heard the Ludgren M8 samples... rather bright stuff no? Anyway, lots of talk on it at sevenstring.org.

Let's keep in touch - there are only a handful of 8 strings in Singapore, I think its a cool tool to have so I would love to be able to hear/share ideas about it.

i'm really a huge fan of Meshuggah and u can see the meshuggah interview regarding abt their 8-string guitar setup.
they too are using bass strings for the low f string and it really helps on the string tension. maybe u shud try it as well.

to me the 18 volt mod does help abit on the overall clearity, but it feels like there's still something lacking in the sound.
