Hi guys! i noe that tis preamp had been discontinued. However for those who has try tis preamp before, wat are ur views abt it?Is the preamp suitable for playing metal mainly or blues mainly(best both)??

Its pretty much on the looser side.

Not suited to metal.

Maybe tube changes could help but the tone was predominantly "bluesy" for me.

Btw, note the switching configurations - might not suit your style of playing.

I do not have the v-twin, however I have the V-1 bottle rocket, and I concur with Shredcow, it is on the looser side, not for metal, heavy rock/classic rock and blues. I switched the tubes from stock Mesa 12ax7 to NOS Sylvania 12At7 to lower the gain and tighten it up a bit, works wonders last time the gain would get mushy from 11-12 o clock onwards now its tight until the max settings although w quite lower gain for what i do, rock, classic rock, blues its superb. I also cascade it with a Phoenix Electronics Tonemaster (Rangemaster type) and it works wonders..

interestingly,, imho, v twin can do metal, but not the tight like no gap chuggah chuggah metal. For those tight tight one, a boss ge7 into metalzone will do, no need v twin..

at moderate gain and a pump up amp, it can get some sludgy/stoner vibe, theres this spongy characteristic which i like, plus the thick mids kinda sound.

the overdrive setting, imho is ok, nothing fancy or bad. It works, thats all.

i don't play metal. so my opinion on it's suitability may not weigh much.

but certainly, this is a kick ass pre-amp for rock and blues. it's one of the best pre-amp i have owned.

Yup2 I have, using a mesa Heartbreaker (Mesa fan here hahaha), which is not your usual chugga2 mesa, its basically a reissue of the Mark I series thus perfect for what i do I set the mesa to a break up setting and punch the Tonemaster for more burn.. However as amps go thats like a piece of rock so it doesn't go anywhere. So the Tonemaster + Mesa Bottle Rocket is on my board and Ill use it when I go out and jam. However or at home purposes its usually the Tonemaster/Barber LTD to the heartbreaker. Or I just use the heartbreaker alone.
Am expecting a Mesa Quad preamp to come soon for recording/variety purposes. Gonna use it through the power section of the Heartbreaker. Thus based on this I will have access to Mesa Mark I, Mark IIC and Mark III tones
