Me (soon to be) new axe!

I don't know dude, he's just trying too hard.... Try playing the Gibson for a few months first, the pickups are good, trust me, they'll do for the meantime.

this goes out to the threadstarter , calm down starting with a Gibson and sucking will make you look bad so lets try to exclude brands here , people tend to take it as you showing off . It takes awhile to get started up but when the need for something comes , you'll know when to do it . So don't look at pickups , obviously you have to change your stings every 2 - 3 weeks (depending on what you use) . I've never really put in much effort into maintaining my guitar in good condish cause i totally dig the dings and battle scars of the les paul . If you can afford a Gibson , you can afford to trash it (pun intended) .

ya, and uve to realise that, a gibson is not the holy grail of guitars, stop this arrogance, and show us what u can play, its the player, not the guitar, that shreds.

exactly what i would say.
the guitar doesn't matter. it's the player who does everything.

I'm not trying to show off, I just think that details such as the guitar I use might help you guys in giving me a better answer.

Anyway, I read that the pickups on the Studio were Alnico pickups, so I decided not to change them. Originally I had them confused as ceramic cos the 496R and 500T are ceramic.

Another question... why will I have to change the strings so often? Is there a way to prevent this?

how often you change your strings depends on:

  1. how often you play
  2. whether you wipe after playing
  3. coated/treated strings.. or not.
you're likely to ask what kind of strings we'd recommend next right?

...Right...

I play like 2 hours everyday (on the classical guitar currently)

And my style of strumming usually ends up damaging the guitar finish... Well, not like the classical guitar had any though, so the wood's starting to chip...

dude just dun care about watever 496R500Tceramic4967834 blah blah blah, just play the freakin guitar!! after so much u still dun get it....

Drop by Yamaha or any guitar shop for that matter and get a ghs fast fret. It helps clean and maintain your strings, thus lessen the need for frequent re-stringing. I use one myself.

Reason for change of strings: Rust, which affects the quality of your sound. But since you're just starting out and not doing performances / gigs yet, I don't really see the need such frequent re-stringing. Hope that helps.

For now, you can try sticking to changing your strings once a month. There are factors to consider though, like the quality of strings that you buy and if you have sweaty palms. You get point....

I only have sweaty palms when I'm nervous... Like the first time I tried an electrical guitar with lots of people watching me... When I only knew how to play Amazing Grace...

When you say rust, do you mean alot (My neighbour's acoustic has a string that's turned totally brown from golden) or abit oso must change?

When one has sweaty palms, one has sweaty palms... Strings will still rust faster than people who don't have sweaty palms at all!

when it starts getting REALLY uncomfortable to play with. when your string is no longer steel/nickel, and it's turned into another creature.

I guess TidesofBlood has answered your question. For me, I change once I see some rust appearing on my strings, moderate rust I would say. I'm just fussy, that's just me. It's up to you really.

haha this thread is getting dumber by the minute , how old are you silencer ? cause you seem to be pissed scared about holding a Gibson .
