hi softies,

beginner here, hope to learn loads you guys!

just took over my friends rhythm traveller with a stage custom snare. im a lefties and can only play open handed. hope to learn how to nicely setup my drumset in my room!

never realized how loud the drums can be in a hdb! wah lao. just bought mutes from ranking but they totally take out all the sound, its like playing drums on my slippers. havent done anything like sponging my wall or getting a carpet yet, hope to hear a few suggestions from those dwelling in a hdb too.

wooooohoooo

hey man , congrats on getting yr new set bro , get a carpet ( not to thin ones ) you can get them at ikea , very good anti slip sumore

btw can i ask how much u got yr drum mutes ?

haha, everyones been telling me to get 'the ikea carpet' as if it was made for that sole purpose! will surely check it out.

i bought my mutes at ranking a few days ago, they're at $1 per inch. i dont really like them though, they totally take away the sound, I WANNA SELL THEM!

been getting like feedback from the wall when i hit the drums, like its bouncing off, super ringy man. is there anything i can do to my set to reduce that? is it like i have to change the heads or change sticks? or reposition the toms?

another thing is that being a RT, the toms are small then the usually ones, so the pitch is much higher, which i dislike, i wanna like lower the tones of it, is it like anyway possible?

anyways, heres a shot of my set, pretty thrashed thou.

pearl RT w/ yamaha stage custom snare and one damn old hihat.

excessive ringing ? u can use moongels or O rings ,

i think its due to the enviroment of the drums the walls dont absorb ( i think la )

he meant the reverb i think...

well...since you are facing the drums there ( a flat surface ) ...its bound to bounce off...

well to reduce reverb...maybe get a carpet hanging on that wall or something....add more cloth in the room? :)

reverb is the irregular rebound of sound due to the room structure.

like how singing in the bathroom can get quite alot of revreb... :)

hi frummer,

i think you're right to call it reverb, thanks man, i'll go try hanging a blanket or something, hopefully to improve the sound.

kari_convention,

i guess im just a lost drummer whos unable to produce the right sounds from my set, more frustrated then anything else. like the horrible hollow reverb and the cymbals sounding like tin cans.

argh, i hope i can figure all this out, my drumset has a been a real let down.

=/

paperbox....for reverb...use those (cardboard where people put eggs one) and put it behind the wall of your Bass Drum, with a carpet on the floor for your Bass Drum - It will be ok...

I've seen many of my friends done that - and it works really.

Happy Drumming & cheers !

RD; i know the eggs-box thing is the cheapest way to reduce some reverb in a room but it will bring another problem.

COCKROACHES!

make sure u get a new one, and not the used one.
:)

RD,

thanks, id go to the market and ask for those eggtrays, new ones off course, mmm i hope it does remove the reverb yes?

mm im wondering where the best place to get those moongels to place on my toms to muffler that damn ring. anyone can tell me more about them?

also looking for a decent set of cymbals that sound better than my super crappy cx-300 cymbals. say a hihat, crash and a ride?

btw, any1 can refer me to a nice url where i can read about drumsticks, the material and the tip, it will be oh so helpful la.

i wanna play songs from weezerrrr!

for cymbals....id recommend the Istanbul Mehmet Samatyas....hand hammered....hi hat crash and ride for 650...

moongel too....

both of these can be found at Drums Resources ( refer to drum shops thread )

at Excelsior Hotel huh, mmmm will go hear them, just dont know how to psycho myself to fork out 650!

mm i just need decent one to play and practise, nothing performing of anyyy sort. any range of that kind any1 can recommend?

Paperbox...get Resale-Cymbals of average quality...it's good value for money many a times...just make sure they are in good condition that's all.
