Math Metal/Mathcore

no one said anything about "strict" genre definitions :?

i'm not one for listening by genres either. it's just that when you are looking to introduce people to a new sound that you've heard, giving it a name makes it easier :)

not invoking a strict genre definition either but music labelling is the classification of types according to a certain parameter, yes? if it's loose, then one category might be mistaken for another which defeats the purpose of labelling it in the first place.

A: Hey, are you listening to Symphonic Math Metal Core Ambient Goth?
B: No silly, it's Symphonic Black Death Math Metal Core.
A: Oh...?

which one rings a quicker bell:

*saying MESHUGGAH; or
*Math Metal?

Weird genre but intresting nonetheless

I'm always intrigued by how people can screw around with the time signatures, make things hard for drummer only haha

finding stuff under beds isn't philosophy...

Yup. It means you got serious issues with cleanliness.

Or your affair with your neighbour's wife is getting too dangerous (although you should have at least tried the closet first).

Jokes aside, I'm quite willing to accept fusions of already given genre terms eg punk metal, metalcore, rapcore etc etc. But this is seriously way to silly for me.

Please, when I listen to metal, the last thing I wanna think about is algebra....

I find all these subgenre's really retarded. all the core core core all.. now theres MATHcore which is basically progressive rock/metal. Wow! soon they ll be calling techno "electrocore" or "technocore" or something and just add an electric guitar part to it

I'm actually in the process of adding heavy distorted guitars to my dance music production. :)

Meshuggah rocks, but I can't listen that much to the first few tunes of Catch 33. After a while it gets...uhm...monotonous.

What i figured out for most of Meshuggah's drumming, the cymbals are always on the constant downbeat.

Listen to Mudvayne...You won't regret it.

Especially this song called "Dig", which is their first single. It rocks.

And I like the fact that Matt McDonough is their drummer, because he is my favourite drummer. :)
