Eight of rock's hottest bands have contributed to a special re-recording of Metallica's "Master Of Puppets" in celebration of the twentieth anniversary of the classic album's release and the 25th anniversary of the magazine Kerrang! The CD will be given away free with Kerrang! issue 1102, which goes on sale April 5. Magazines with the special CD will be available in the usual spots outside of the UK- at your favorite record store or book store if they normally import Kerrang! or you can order it online through the Kerrang! site.

"Remastered" features exclusive recordings by Bullet For My Valentine, Trivium, Fightstar, Machine Head, Funeral For A Friend, Chimaira, Mastodon and Mendeed, with the sleeve notes for the album derived from a chat with Lars. "It's awesome to think that some of you guys weren't even born when we recorded "Master Of Puppets"!", laughed Lars. "When we started thinking about Kerrang! honoring "Master Of Puppets" with this tribute album, and saw the artwork and the line-up of bands we realized it was a big deal. We're honored that it's a record that's perceived as a milestone and a record that's been so inspiring to so many people, both fans and young bands like Trivium and Bullet For My Valentine. We're as excited to hear this as you guys are!"

I expect this to be terrible, no offence, something like that Metallica tribute on MTV with Limp Bizkit, Korn, Avril, Sum 41, Snoop Dogg(Snoop Dogg???) ...

well..we need to hear it before making any assumtions...judging purly by the bands line-up...i think its pretty cool...a very good mixture of bands

Well said my man.
It might be good or it might be crap. But let's just hear the product to make a fair judgement. I'm also curious to hear the treatment of the songs by these bands. This is a pretty cool idea actually, letting these new bands to 'remake' a classic album such as MoP. If it was up to me, I'd think of some other different bands though. I know Trivium has a big love for Metallica. Machine Head should be there of course. I don't know who is Mendeed. Chimaira is cool. Mastodon should be awesome, especially covering Orion. Bullet For My Valentine, Funeral For A Friend and Fightstar? I don't know man, let's just find out. Gotta look out for this issue of Kerrang!

Bullet For My Valentine and Funeral for a Friend on a Metallica tribute album.

That's just sacrilege.

Cloudsky,
But those bands are huge, at least in their own rights!

I think i phrased it wrongly, I have heard of those bands but never listened to their material

Kerrang is sweet, I remember an issue when they were issuing free Slipknot fridge-magnets.

I've never seen them sell Kerrang!...I wish they did though...so I wouldn't have to travel to Orchard just to get a copy, haha...
