In this climate i find that tuning can run a lot... especially if you perform outdoors and indoors... the humdity changes play havoc with your strings.
other than that... well i don't really slap or pop, but i guess you could say i am an "aggressive player" so.. tuner required...
Then there is always alternate tunings....
And if you feel really adventerous, detuning the low string on a bass while still playing on it can create some really trippy/ spacey sounds....
I use that in the middle of one song so that one really needs the tuner w/ mute function so i can double check im back in tune during the guitar break that follows (only 8 bars so its a bit stressful if I ended up with my low string tuned at C#!)
