United close on Real

United are rapidly closing the gap on Real Madrid to lay claim to being the world's wealthiest football club.

The latest Money League for the 2006/07 season, compiled by business advisory firm Deloitte sees the Reds leap two places from fourth to second place.

Real, who have topped the charts for the last three years, initially stole the title off United.

The Spanish giants increased their income by 20 per cent, with United's revenue up by an impressive 30 per cent.

United's rise was helped by the opening last season of Old Trafford's new quadrants, the stadium's capacity increasing to 76,000, and also the Reds' run to the Champions League semi finals.

Dan Jones, partner at Deloitte in Manchester, said: "With the new Premier League television deals now online for the 2007/08 season, Manchester United have the opportunity to significantly close the gap on Real. A successful Champions League run may even see United challenge for the number one spot next year.

"The big difference between United and Real is that Real can sell their own broadcast rights. But I'd expect United to rise further next year."

Giggs happy to win ugly

Ryan Giggs warns high-flying Arsenal to prepare for a backlash
Ryan Giggs has hit out at Arsenal and their pretty football, claiming the Premier League is about winning ugly.
And Rio Ferdinand joined the attack by warning Arsene Wenger's side to expect a backlash from Manchester United in the FA Cup on Saturday.
Giggs was amused by all the plaudits heaped on the Gunners for playing attractive football during their resurgence as a topflight force this season.
He claims United's play has been just as appealing and doubts whether Arsenal will be able to dig out results when the pressure is really on.
"I did notice all the praise Arsenal were getting for their football, but it didn't really bother me," said Giggs. "Arsenal have been playing good football, but we have as well.”

All that Giggs and Ferdinand big talk sound juss like Fergie before the Man City gae when he wanted to win and win hansomely for the occasion.....

lets see what kinda backlash AFC can expect then ....

I think Arsenal might edge it=.= They are on fire. SO I think Arsenal is going to win or they will take the match to a replay. I hope I'm wrong. Both teams will definitely not be fielding their strongest side as the Champions league is in their second main priority

2b honest, Im not so bothered by the outcome of this one... FA cup only mah ...I'd rather we lse this match and win the epl one at OT in April .....

haha yea..i rather manu lose this and win the epl..

the fa cup is actually is like "face" saving title. At least if say manu lose the epl , they can still boast they won a silverware this serson.

But of course it will be best manu can win arsenal and grab both titles. Make arsenal lose face

since when did arsenal play pretty football all the way.

i remember when they resorted to high balls to score a few times this season. esp when they were on the brink of losing

Every team plays their side of " Ugly Football "

And high-balls doesn't mean ugly football. Ugly = Bolton, for example, it isn't pretty to watch, and they would go 4-5-1 and leave 10 men behind the halfway line and play it out for a draw.
I mean if a defender punts a highball up, the striker chests it beautifully, runs, plays it to another guy, crosses in, boom. goal. I don't see how that is ugly.

And yes, the only thing I like watching Arsenal is their playing style, even though I don't support them, I try to watch every match.

agreed Plastic

football is big business
advertisers,corporate big-wigs want winners
people remember winners

and sometimes Ugly Football helped to achieve that objective
Man Utd sometimes are guilty of ugly football
Italy,Germany and hell even 02 Brazil World cup winning team played such "smart" football.

The only team that played beautiful football and won World Cup was 1970 Brazil, and that's why they were revered very much.

modern football, they are no such teams playing attacking full 90 mins onslaught, the closest one being Ronaldinho led Barca team which won the European CL..and maybe the "Invicibles" Arsenal team and 98-99 Man Utd Euro CL winning team..

Sorry i have to say something here. I support Everton but i don't think they are a big shot. How can arsenal be a big shot compared to Ac milan, Intermilan, Barca and real. Well maybe in your eyes. What he meant to say was arsenal hasn't really prove their quality yet. A good quality squad will pose a title threat every season. Look at chelsea and manu, they are always the one fighting for the title every season. Arsenal has just caught up this season.Example in 1995, Blackburn won the EPL, but who would have thought they are a good quality squad. and so in 1996 season they relegated even after winning the title in 1995. This shows winning the title once doesnt prove quality, however posing threats N winning titles consistently is the key to being a "BIG SHOT"

there is no big shot in any thing.its just a bunch of arrogant retards thats all.i have never regarded man utd as the team that ruled the galaxy and neither can any other fan should have that mentality.
